 Geneva Preview: ABT Sportsline to Show Light-Weight Audi R8 GTR With 600-hp |

Germany's largest and best-known Audi/VW-tuner ABT Sportsline will display three finely-tuned new models, as well as an even more hard-core version of the V10-powered R8 5.2. Called the ABT R8 GTR, this German exotic is based off the modified R8 5.2 that ABT brought to Geneva last year, and boasts the same V10 under the hood, which has been tuned to 600-hp.
New for 2010, the GTR model will get an even more aggressive aero treatment, with most of the body panels made of carbon fiber. In fact, ABT has taken a light-weight approach with the GTR model, manufacturing the hood, front and rear bumpers out of carbon fiber, while the rear hatch has been replaced with a carbon fiber unit and the glass swapped out for light-weight plexiglass. Just 25 R8 GTRs will be built.
Along with this monster, ABT will display a more subtle R8 Spyder as well as the first modified version of Audi's new flagship A8.
Best known for its Volkswagen tuning, ABT hasn't neglected its core audience either and will show a new line of performance and aesthetic products for the very-new Golf R model. With 265-hp and a 0-60 mph time of 5.0 seconds in stock trim, we can't wait to see what ABT has in store for this hot German hatch.

It will be a long time before we get bored of talking about or looking at Audi's R8 and the recently-released Spyder model. And how could we when Audi releases amazing video like the one above.
Powered by a Lamborghini-soured 5.2-liter V10, the R8 Spyder 5.2 FSI makes 525-hp, can hit 60 mph in 4.0 seconds flat and blasts on to a top speed of 195 mph!
What might be most impressive about the drop-top R8 is that the exotic German sports car only weighs 13.23 lbs more than the Coupe, thanks in part to the R8's already stiff chassis and a light-weight soft-top instead of a retractable hard top. 2010 Detroit Auto Show Coverage |

Subdued in 2009, America's most important auto show is back on track at the start of a new and more optimistic year. General Motors and Ford will take center stage with a long list of new and important products including the 2011 Ford Focus, 2011 Ford Mustang GT, Chevrolet Camaro Convertible, 2011 Chevrolet Aveo, Buick Regal GS, GMC Granite Concept, Cadillac XTS Concept and Cadillac CTS-V Coupe. As for Chrysler, it doesn't have any press conference scheduled, but it will display a rebadged five-door hatchback from Fiat's Lancia brand, as well as a lineup of Fiat 500 models, including a convertible, electric version and a sporty Abarth model. Now under Fiat's wing, the Chrysler booth with also display amazing machines from both Ferrari and Maserati.
Other important vehicles debuting at the show include the Honda CR-Z Hybrid, a dedicated hybrid concept from Toyota, the 2011 BMW 3 Series, BMW Z4 sDrive35is, 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe, MINI Beachcomber Concept and the Mercedes E-Class Cabriolet.

The North American International Auto Show, hosted each year in Detroit, appears set to return to its former glory for 2010. Many of the automakers absent from last year will be displaying and introducing models, while fears of bankruptcy for the U.S. manufacturers have been realized and have now subsided thanks to generous government aid and the help of foreign partners, the cooperation of the unions and a lot of tough decisions.
Important debuts for the first auto show of 2010 include the Honda CR-Z hybrid sports car, a Dedicated Hybrid Concept from Toyota, the BMW Z4 sDrive35i, the MINI Moke Concept and the 2011 Ford Mustang GT.

Report: Audi Planning to Race R8 in North America |

After launching the R8 LMS race car in Europe last year, Audi has now announced its intentions to bring the track-only version of the R8 to North America. In an interview with the American Le Mans Series (ALMS), Audi Sport boss Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich, said he’d like to have the car run in something like the ALMS’s GT Challenge class in 2011.
The GT Challenge class is the entry-level class, which is part of a new set of classes the series has created to stay competitive confuse people.
“From 2011 on, we want to the cars available to customers in the United States,” he said, commenting that obviously Audi would need to support the teams and not just sell the cars.
With Audi’s huge involvement in the ALMS over the past several years with its TDI diesel R8, R10 and now R15 cars, the German automaker has done a lot to raise the series’ profile. Dr. Ulrich hinted that it would be nice if the GT class could accommodate Audi, which has done so much for the sport. With Audi not as involved in the ALMS any more, however, he even commented that Audi would like to continue to support the series, something the introduction of a fleet of R8 race cars most certainly would do.
