CHARLOTTE, N.C. (July 1, 2008) — Continental Tire North America Inc.’s ContiSportContact Vmax ultra-high performance tire has exceeded its previously tested top speed mark, the company said.
Jan Fatthauer, of the Porsche Tuners 9FF team, drove a 987-horsepower Porsche GT9 fitted with the tires to a speed of 254 mph at the Papenburg test circuit in Germany. The run also set a new record for the street-legal racecar.
The ContiSportContact Vmax’s previous top speed of 244 mph was set almost a year ago.
The Charlotte-based tire maker claims the Vmax—developed for ultra-fast super sports cars—is the only tire to be included in last year’s Guinness Book of Records.
