i watched this last night, what a machine! I was always one who was never sold on the GTR but wow did my mind change last night! And the attention to detail is amazing.
I am seriously struggling from cancelling my order of a V10 R8 and going for one of these! Half the price, not a supercar slayer a HYPERcar slayer. Hmmm...
I have booked for a demo next month. I am as old as Clarkson so may need to worry about my neck....
I have an Ice Silver with Carbon Sigma Sideblade Manual
I felt his neck pop, mine does the same thing sometimes when doing sports activities – it’s an old guy thing.
For track warriors the GT-R definitely deserves a look. It reportedly has very good driving characteristics (like the R8) and probably would be a better choice for a dedicated track car.
Will I look at one? Never. I don't need a dedicated track car and over 90% of my driving is on the road and the R8 makes the GTR look like a cheap generic muscle car. To me the target market for the GT-R are the Corvette Z06/Japanese racer/ Lotus Elise race car drivers who are looking for the best track performance per dollar spent. There is no need to invest engineering dollars on luxury items for the dedicated track car group.
I think Audi will have a real problem trying to profitably segment the very low production volume R8 to appease both the "track warriors" versus the "luxury sport drivers". Ideally you would want an Audi R8 GT version (aka Porsche GT2) for the track warriors. However, if the dedicated track warriors are not a brand loyal group then why should Audi make a track version of the R8?
(I think the R8 would lose more customers to a next generation Porsche design that has solid driving characteristics, i.e. non tail wagging. Or, to a new track oriented BMW. I can’t see the luxury sports car buyer looking at a Nissan as an alternative).
I thought he said the GTR was also extremely competend on the road the previous week? Extremely comfortable when needed too?
Im gonna need to go see one, Im not sold on the looks(rear view) but would need to see it in the metal as I didnt like the R8 until I saw one in the metal. I just dont know if I can justify spending 2x on a slower car which is designed as a supercar. The only brands I would do this for is Ferrari/Lamborghini
I like the gtr and think nissan have done extremely well in making it - but the v8 r8 has never been about pure performance. Most of the qualities that drew me to the r8 aren't there in the gtr, but I can still appreciate what a great car it is.
R8 V10 r-tronic: ice silver / carbon blades / grey alcantara (in-car videos)

Jas667 - the GT-R is faster on any track than the R8. Edmunds did a fair benchmark test. If you want the fastest track car for a relatively inexpensive price the GT-R would be the car to choose. Nissan is a good manufacturer with reliability above European brands. If you get one, let us know how it goes. If you report back that your GT-R is eating up the R8's at your local track you'll probably see a few more competitive track warriors here getting a GT-R.
It's all good.
Hey I dont want a track car so dont count on a report from me anytime soon on that one, lol. I used to race for a UK based racing team so that is kind of behind me now, you never push as hard in your own car.
Im still undecided, Im just not too keen on paying so much for a V10 R8 (which its main claim is speed) when I can get just as comfortable and alot faster for half the cost. Ill need to wait and see, Im going to put a deposit down on one anyways so I have more time to decide! :-)
I reckon I might go for Abarth 500 instead

I had my free Nissan Racing academy day at Silverstone last week.Having had a deposit on this car since before Xmas I couldnt wait to drive it.
All the hype is real - its a stunner - the quickest car Ive driven by some way.
Even Pat Symonds (Renault F1 boss) who was in my team was blown away with it (currently drives a 911 & 355)
Please dont think this is a track only car - its an everyday supercar.
