In motorsport a driver can make only one adjustment to the inside or the outside in an attempt to 'block' another competitor's effort to pass. But ONLY ONE. Once he has moved in either direction, he cannot then move back towards his original position. Edwards should be fined heavily and receive a limited suspension. I doubt if the injured spectators and the destroyed 39 car were too inspired by Edwards' 'courageous little jog to the finish.

    * How in the World can a modern USA television network actually pay idiots who talk like that, to be professional announcers? GEEEZ!

Just when you think safety is not an issue anymore ,something like this happens. Sure the back of your ticket has an injury waiver...but how many read the fine print.Time to re-think the spectators safety!! And those seats were'nt cheap either!!

    Hey Harrison,

This video is a great example of a couple of safety items you and I were discussing at the LBGP a couple of weeks ago:
    • The car's "flying speed" is lower in a yaw. Once the car turned sideways, most of the downforce disappears. It was lifting off and already partially airborne before it was hit by the car behind; and
    • The benefits of the HANS device (neck brace). Even after such a strong series of impacts, the driver was able to exit the burning car by himself and jog away before any rescuers arrived.

(Thanks to MotherTucker for first bringing the HANS to my attention.)

Thumbs up Re: Hate NASCAR,But This Is Exciting Finish

The bottom of our R8s' are super flat like the Le Mans cars. How does the R8 handle at high speeds in reverse?? A rear wing could save your life or get you flying real quicK,Thus I stay in my lane and try not to get sidewaays.I need your restraint system.I was amazed and completely satisfied with your system.Take care Bud. There's another feature Audi SHOULD have included...Drivers' AND passengers' 4 point belts and Han's devices like yours!

If your going to head for the track you have to remember "1" thing. Everything is "Expendable" and we can "Replace Anything", "EXCEPT YOU".
Be as safe as possible "Always", because "You Don't Get a Second Chance"

The HANS Device (Neck Brace) and a Racing Collar are great items and should be used. As well as a 4, 5 point harness or even a 6-point single seater harness with turn buckle quick-release mechanism. With anti-creep adjusters/loop & D-ring crotch strap. 3” shoulder straps, 3” lap straps, 2” crotch straps. You can "Never" be to "SAFE" when it comes to your Gear or your Setup.

Now that you got the "Car" and and "All" the correct gear you still "Need 1 More" thing before you start. "Great Skills" Take as many instructional courses you can and "Practice, Practice, Practice", PREFERABLY IN YOUR CAR.

Someone once told me that "Practice Does Not Make Perfect", "Practice Makes, Perfect Practice"!

I don't understand a race series where it is acceptable to nerf off the leader - did the 'winner' get punished?

A point of interest is that Schroth is now saying that a 2" (50mm) lap belt is safer than a 3" (75mm), because it stays in proper position on the hip better than the wider belt. You can read about it here: http://www.schrothracing.com/main/Engineering
