Have a little class...

So I was driving the R8 home tonight from Old Town Scottsdale and came upon a Black Corvette Z06. From the sound of the exhaust, I assume he had done some tuning to it. Looked nice, sounded good. It was all down hill from there....

I was heading north up Scottsdale Rd, a 3 lane both way major busy street, doing the speed limit. The driver of the vette revs the engine obviously wanting to race, slams on the throttle and takes off in busy traffic. I don't do anything. He waits for me to catch up and does it again. And he does it a 3rd time. Finally getting the hint that I wasn't going to engage in his BS, he pulls up beside me. The weather in Scottsdale is beautiful now and I have my window down. I look over at him and shake my head and tell him to "have a little class".

This throws this D-Bag into a total rage. He begins to yell and race around me then slam on the brakes in front of me multiple times for about a mile, all in somewhat busy traffic. All the time screaming for me to pull over and stop. I assume he wanted to fight??!! He pulled over and I kept driving never changed lanes or exceeded the speed limit.

Point of story...ironically I own a Black Z06 and I was absolutely appalled and embarassed by this guys behavior. It was not only ridiculous but extremely unsafe. I would hope that my fellow R8 owners show some class when cruising around their own towns. Please represent our R8 community with the upmost CLASS!

Tomorrow I am selling my Z06 as this experience has ruined my love for the car! (maybe)

Unfortunately this has become the norm for this area, but not limited to Z06's so don't let 'em ruin it for ya.

Visiting Scottsdale around September last year, beautiful area btw, I didn't really see almost any performance cars to my surprise with your consistent beautiful weather, at least to a Canadian. I did make a stop at the Audi/Lambo/Bentley - exotic dealership and oogled at all the cars, so beautiful.

Thankfully we didn't come across any such drivers in our rental Toyota (well that wouldn't start anything - a rental Avalon) and most of the drivers were quite civilized. Too bad for this experience when sometimes all we want to do is drive in peace in a nice car. I somewhat fear for this when I do get my first sports performance car - something no where near the realm of an R8, yet.

Besides, I've noticed a plethora of speeding cameras at all major highways while enjoying passenger-sightseeing and noticed not much speeding (if any), again without spotting a single sports/supercar. I did spot a nice white Rolls Royce though .

There's always some idiot out there that seems to think that because you have a sports car that you MUST race them. No, that's not the case. I had one of those Ford Lightning pickup trucks do the speed up, slow down, rev the engine, speed up, slow down thing for about 10 miles on the freeway a few weekends ago. It's annoying.

3.5 more years and I'll be your neighbor! 5 acres at Via Dona and Hayden await my arrival. NO SNOW!!!

Gazza- I totally agree with you that its the driver not the car. I was only kidding about selling the Z06!

Kfab- I love it here and yes, No snow! (Well it did actually snow here in North Scottsdale about 8 years ago) That offer to buy you a beer will still be good in 3.5 Years!!!

My rule is never engage with people who are obviously knobs. Just not worth it.

Call the cops, give them the car make, model and license plate details. If they see him doing bull**** further down the road he'll be in trouble and it will teach him a lesson.

I've done that to someone who behaved like a total idiot on the highway and a few KM down the road they pulled him over.

'Shoulda told him ...ANYBODY can go fast straight line. Meet me at the road race track, and bring your money. You would make him eat your dust and rubber. Desparado has a ZR1 and a supercharged R8. I'll bet his R8 eats up his Vette ---EVERYTIME. When the 'Vettes come in all wheel drive,(which they most certainly will) then I would consider a 'Vette in my race garage.
