A new addition to the family

And another Audi joins the ranks.

Just made a deal on a 2006 A4 with 52K miles and two more years worth of warranty (Audi Certified) for my getting ready to drive daughter (Lord help us!)

Basic model: Six speed stick, 2.0T powerplant, black on black with the sunroof option.

Perfect for a new driver. Safe, reliable, quattro for adverse conditions, good fuel mileage and, well, it's an Audi!

This ought to be interesting - teaching her to drive a stick is going to be fun. (and I'll now have to hide the R8 keys )

Your daughters very lucky. I had to learn in a Renault clio (don't think you have those in the states) Then a focus ST( not sure if you have those in the states I know they have them in canada I had one as a rental.). my father refused to get me a car he did buy me me a private number plate for a car I didn't have :S.

Here in the uk the insurance for a new driver in A4 2.0T would be at least $12,000

Anyway hope you enjoy your purchase and you invest in a safe for those R8 keys

I agree with having our children learn to drive a stick. I've taught 3 so far 2 to go. First got a Honda Civic, second a Toyota Corolla and third a Toyota Tacoma. All sticks, lots of pushback at first and "thank you Dad" afterwards.

I heard from a friend in the insurance industry that statistically stick drivers have better driving records.

We owe it to our children.

My insurance agent told me out of 100 sixteen-year-old drivers there will be 99 accidents. (some 16 year olds get in multiple accidents the first year driving) He said that is why their insurance rates are so high.

We let my daughter drive the entire time on a 1300 mile round-trip vacation. At the end she could drive safely. There were some scary moments.

I hope you enjoy your daughter's learning...and a safe for the R8 keys is a good idea.

Re: A new addition to the family

I taught my son to drive a stick in my old BMW 3 series convertible in an industrial parking lot near some car dealers. During one of our lessons, some guys testing a new Porsche Turbo pulled up next to us. The salesman asked if my son was learning to drive. I said yes and he looked very upset and asked me to not let him move the car until they got out of the parking lot.

I also had my son take an emergency driver safety course. It was a one day lesson in the parking lot. They gave a lecture on driving safety (the kids paid attention because it wasn't their parent telling them) and then they got the kids out driving around cones and making emergency braking and avoidance maneuvers with an instructor in the car. At the end, they soaped up the place and had them put a car with bald tires into spins and taught the kids how to recover. I'd highly recommend it.

    Best wishes to your daughter.

Re: A new addition to the family

What's great is that my daughter was almost insistent that the car be a stick. She's said this since her older sister started driving about two years ago. - older sis doesn't drive a stick either.

I agree with you Maegeri, she will be taking the emergency course. The school she attends offers it fairly often.

I actually think this is a good time for the two of us to go to one of the driving schools like Bonduront or what ever it is they call the Derek Daily school now. I'd enjoy a refresher and she'd learn a huge amount about car control.
