McLaren MP4-12C - fastest at the Top Gear track

Apparently the MP4-12C recently smashed the Top Gear Lap Record with an amazing time of 1:14.118 completely stock, and a 1:12.915 when fitted with Corsa tires, and the light weight package. That puts it about 5 seconds faster than the 458 Italia. However Top Gear or McLaren have not confimred the time.

A super car can be be given that title through definition itself, but any true super car will need to test its worth on two different tracks: the Nurburgring and the Top Gear test track. Now it seems the latter has found itself a new record holder in the McLaren MP4-12C.

Up until now, the record for the fastest lap time around the Dunsfold track was held by the Ariel Atom V8 500’s time of 1:15.1. Now, a McLaren dealer in London is foaming at the mouth with information that the MP4-12C has smashed that record with a lap time of 1:14.118 when equipped with standard tires. Take it a bit further and this same dealer reports that, when the vehicle was loaded with the "Light weight package" and some Corsa tires, it managed to lap the circuit in 1:12.915. Oh, and it gets even better. The McLaren MP4-12C GTR is predicted to make that same lap in a blissful 1:09.

None of these times have been made official by McLaren just yet, but just the thought of them being true is enough for us to be left speechless.

One might shave off several seconds more with slicks mounted up. How much quicker might the GT version be ?

Yes, their GT3 is quite a car by any measure! And it actually has LESS HP than the road car!

I thought the GT3 had 600 compared to street cars 500. WOW. Twin turbos.

I must say that the McLaren is the one car that I'll have to take a long hard look at once I decide to move on from the R8; which will probably be a few years down the line - heck I still have an 03 RS6 and don't plan on getting rid of it anytime soon.

I have no prob with the doors. They make sense by not swinging out into other parked cars, nor swinging out into the street as you exit. My prob is the silly smiley face front!! LOL!
The look of the rear end also isn't very strong, but what a wonderful car!!!

Agreed 100%!! Not a very good looking car, but the GT3 version looks great from every angle!

Now you have ruined the car for me. Every time I look at the front, I am going to see the smile face front!

I still want it, but it really needs to be lowered.
