    A warning to uk owners.

I recently got pulled by the police as I'm young to own a R8. The officers gave me a warning about car jacking, car theft and things to watch out for so i thought I would share. I've also booked me and miss drifting into a Hostile driving course.

There is quite a few different styles most seem to happen around motorways/slip roads.

    1. Eggs will be thrown at the windscreen. Most people then will try to wash the screen this only make its worst and will blur most of the windscreen then when you are forced to pull over. In the mean time you won't have noticed car following you. So when you stop they offer to help or ask a question then they will over power you or worst and take the car. If this does happen just give them the keys its not worth been killed over its just a car. to avoid this do NOT wash the screen drive to a petrol station or somewhere with plenty of people and light around / call the police and head towards the nearest police station if you are been followed.

    2. A baby or small child will be left at the side of the road. Most people will pull over and try to help. This is when a car will pull up behind or people will appear again with the intension of taking your car. If you see a child at the side of the road call the police or at least look at your surrounds i.e is anyone about, is it a quiet lane/road? Don't put your self in danger.

    3. A car will be pulled across the road seem to be more quiet lanes and roads day and night tho. They make it look like they are turning around but having problems This is when a car will come up behind you and block you in. They want your car just give them it force will probable be used. Hard one to avoid if something seems odd or doesn't feel right get the hell out of there fast as you can! Also this depends on what car your in my other halfs range rover push most cars out the way I don't think a R8 would be so good at ramming things . This happened to a local guy in a EVO X lucky he is an decent driver and really on the ball.

    4. This one affects us all car criminals are using these forums to search for cars they want I know this problem has been seen on skyline and jap forums seemed like a group around bristol was up to no good . Just watch what you post and having your full name posted anywhere makes you easy to find .

    5. Most people report getting followed or noticing the same car waiting for them. They may well be trying to find where you live to try to steal the keys and the car or to hi jack you as get out the car. To avoid this try taking different routing home and be early and late if it becomes obvious that you are been followed drive straight to the police station. Keep note of whats following you what the drivers like ect.

I'm sure there are plenty more feel free to list them.

I've been given a few tips like when stopping leave enough room to get around the car in front if needed. I can't say go through a red light but just get the hell out of there

Unless they have a gun do not get out of the car just foot to the floor without running anyone over to causing accident report the incident asap!

Just remember its a car it can be replace people can't and the NHS sucks

I hope this never happens you.

If only a little part of your country's defence budget was spent on fighting crime, and eradicating it, things would probably have been better... sometimes it sucks to be a law abiding citizen.

Actually I'd run over such an a-hole any day of the week.

England is dreadful at the moment. They are downsizing the police force and when they do catch people they let them go the next day with a warning ect.

In the uk if you did run them over you would probable face a prison sentence or at least loose your driving license.

My gf lives 50/50 between here the uk and new york. I've been looking into moving to the states just don't think I would get residence.

Ive been pulled over a few times by police who thought I had stolen the car :P Had a few police offers warn me about driving into certain areas of bristol lol. I cant see anyone trying to hijack an R8 tho? As its going to standout and will probably have a tracker?

Regarding the VISA if you have a degree it makes getting a VISA a lot easier. I was going to move to LA a few years ago.

I know there have been a few ferraris, astons and a SLR been stolen in recent years. So i don't see why a R8 is so hard to get rid of . The problem with trackers are they are easy to take out. Unless your car has a few hidden gems tucked away

I got really pulled the other day 2 traffic cars , I thought i was going to get the handcuff treatment. They took the keys to the 8 asked me to sit in there car searched the 8. I had no I.D on me it was looking bad as it could at one point thank god for the insurance company. They said my age and I got the address right I had to go down the station tho with my docs

I don't have a degree. My other half is employed by an american company based in new york which she already owns a small studio apartment and could get approved but Because we aren't married I wouldn't. So unless I take my one of my companies stateside its a no go

    There's always "Plan B"

I came over with a bunch of Europeans (I'm a Brit) and some opted this route to stay. I toughed out the H1-B/Green Card/Naturalization route. Not easy.

drifting, there are other options such as opening a business there, employing a few workers... it's actually not that bad if you build a new business that pays for itself or an extension of whatever you already do.

Look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EB-5_visa and also http://techcrunch.com/2011/03/14/fin...sa-that-works/

If you can show some high net worth and have a good lawyer, you can probably get your status quite easily, although it's going to be a process nevertheless.

What immigration normally cares about is that you won't be a burden on the economy and have enough to sustain yourself... If you can show that, the process is easier.

I'm never sure how they work net worth out

I'm going California in a few months for a road trip so I was going to see how things work and if my current business(all web based) could be adapted to fit the US market.

I think it would be fairly easy to prove we could support ourselves I mean my gf can easily earn what most uk families make in a year in a month and I earn a set amount. She does earn more than me tho

I think we would be better off The uk is an expensive and sometimes scary place to live

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_net_worth_individual might help. In any case, if you want to seriously consider it, take advice from a reputed US immigration lawyer, preferably one who is actually based there.

    Good luck

Sounds like the wisest strategy is to keep that girlfriend happy! Keep doing those sit-ups, and smile a lot!

As to having my car stolen... They are welcome to it, just as long as they total it. I get complete replacement value, and Audi seems to keep making more R8'S!
