    Road America crash

I was up at Road America on Saturday for the Grand-Am series race and we were one corner away from this. We didn't see it, but we got down to where it landed over the fence pretty quick and saw the cleanup work. Pretty wild wreck.

That is impressive! And even better that he walks away. Here's to a quality roll cage and harness.

Was anything ever said about what caused it? In the video they say stuck throttle, possibly, but I wondered if they talked to the driver later in the show.

That clip's gonna replay in my head the beginning of Aug when I join desperado, MNGolfer and SteveR at RA.

Daily - you need to show up too.

I have not heard any more details. It certainly appeared to be a stuck throttle since he had the hooks out and the tires were locked up and smoking. That is at the end of the long front straight which has to be a pretty unsettling feeling for a driver.

He was pretty lucky since after flipping over the fence and dropping off about 50', the car landed upright and I think the small trees actually helped cushion his landing.

Do you boys have a date set for August? I would love to join you if I can make the date.

I was watching the race and studying the line, but hit the tivo button and went out to work on the cars. Now I'm not so sure i want to watch your youtube or the rest of the coverage!
BTW, have you seen the indy lights crash video in The Kink a few years ago? The driver, a gal, walks away with bruises. The wing came off at 160 mph and the car just spins into the wall. A major yard sale.

I will be at the Bridgestone Invitational golf tournament down at Firestone CC and don't return until late Sunday night on the 7th so it doesn't look like this will work (I also have some commitments on that Monday). Too bad, I'd love to run on this track and hook up with you guys.

This crash happens in the first half hour. I won't spoil the ending, but it was a great finish where fuel strategy was a huge factor for all of the GT teams. We were there since we know one of the drivers of the TRG car.

I have seen that crash with Katherine Legge and it is pretty amazing how she walked away from that one.

    Re: Road America crash

A buddy of mine (my R8 tech) works on the APR race team and was at the race. He said that the comments flying around in the pits were that the Camaro lost brakes.

The feeling the driver had at the end of that straight is one of the scariest around. I can't imagine having that happen at 160+. I lost brakes in my desert car running about 60 one afternoon and that was scary enough. Fortunately I didn't hit anything as I went blasting off the trail and out into the weeds.
