Question buying and owning a car from out of state.

Been looking at a 2010 nissan GTR very low miles but its for sale in new jersey which they will ship to new york included in the sticker price.

but I want to drive it to pocatello idaho some 2300 miles away WIll be a great drive with great places to visit.

Well this is where I'm confused as the number plates are different I was told I will have to pay sales tax for in to enter new york but what about idaho? also said that you can only keep a car in a different state for 6 months :S

So do I have to re register the car or what?

Its a lot different from the uk there :S

OH and how cheap is the petrol(gas) there I almost fell over :O

Yes, each state has its own licensing laws and department of motor vehicles (DMV) to administer them and collect the fees and taxes. If you think of it like the separate countries within the EU maybe it will be less confusing.

If you already have your Idaho address, I would recommend using this when you purchase the car. This way you only pay tax once.

You can search online for each state's DMV website and read what is required by each state.

    Thanks Desperado

Just paid for my 2012 GTR 32 miles got a bit off it

Its been shipped to new york next week then I'll drive it to Idaho.

I dont have to retake my driving test(or at least I don't think i do) but I'm guessing it will be cheaper on insurance?

I also don't seem to be able to find performance car centres
