    Tesla Model S Performance option

This is totally off topic for an R8 forum, hence posting the thread in this section.

I have had my deposit in for the new Tesla Model S sedan for 9 months and upgraded a couple of months ago to the "Signature Series" which includes a lot of standard features and assures I will get one of the first 1,000 cars off the line. This is a 100% PEV (Plug-in Electric Vehicle) and not a hybrid like the Fisker Karma.

I know that Bodhii also has a deposit in for the Model S and there may be other forum members too.

Telsa is also offering a "performance" option for this car that includes these upgrades:

    • 0 to 60 mph 4.4 seconds (5.6 standard)
    • high performance drive inverter
    • sport tuned traction control
    • interior with Alcantara accents and carbon fiber décor
    • exterior carbon fiber accents
    • exterior enhancements (front splitter and rear spoiler, badging)

My question to all of the R8 enthusiast members is this: Should I pay the $10K premium for the performance option?

I would say that's a definite yes for such a bump in performance and options.

It does seem a small price to pay for what you get.

daily driver, I am also inline for the Model S. While I have not upgraded to signature "yet" There is no doubt that going for the combination of 300mile range and upgraded motor + pref bits, is a good idea to best enjoy the machine, and thus I plan to. I guess I am spending some of the money I saved going V8 .

The factory tour + ride was impressive this summer, not sure if you made it out for that.

Thanks for the responses, although I doubt anyone here would say the option is a bad idea. I guess i just needed the affirmation to rationalize what is now going to be a car costing north of $100K that starts and under $50K.

I'm glad you're in too Beastly. I think it will be a great car to own and it is truly revolutionary in many ways. I did not get out for the ride in the beta models, but I did see one in the local showroom. I am more impressed with this car the more I learn about it.
