Great performance numbers and I enjoyed the TT-RS I punted around a race track last year..but when I see a male driving a TT on the road it just doesn't somehow fit right?

Performance just isnt the only benchmark as the R8 V8 has never been the fastest..but it certainly is a cut above most other cars as total package.

If you are after numbers only..just buy a GT-R and be the king of the mountain at a cheap price.

audi want to keep the high revving nature of the R8's in the facelift and new R8, so expect the 4.2 and 5.2 to remain

they say it gives the car the highly strung feel with the noise and instant power delivery of the NA
I thought that was just a rumor piece in a magazine?

I think this is really more about Audi's marketing strategy being in-correct, as you go up the Audi range you would naturally expect the R8 to out do the TT at just about everything performance wise, seeing the TTRS quicker in day to day use just isn't correct in my book and is making me sit on the fence....................£1K spent on th TTRS gives it a Revo 410hp and a set of roll bars and geometry set up which from all accounts transformes the car

I always thought the TTRS was supposed to bridge the gap a bit between the TT & the R8. I don't see a problem with the new TTRS's performance figures because Audi has to keep it competitive and there is a new R8 on the way that will push the gap back out further.

2014 is the date doing the rounds for the next generation r8:

    http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsAr...aspx?AR=261215

the facelift woud obviously need to come before that

but everything is still just rumor, mostly put out by magazines trying to get buyers and visitors to their sites.

added: at least this article did reference an actual person rather than just "sources":

    http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1...ructure-report

Due in 2014, the second generation of the R8 will get a hybrid aluminum and carbon fiber structure, says Michael D ick, head of development at Audi

I've managed to clock my TT RS under 4 seconds a few times under ideal conditions with a passenger holding a stop watch. So, not very official but that just goes to show that the TT RS is just plain stupid fast. I'm not a big fan of the body style but the car is just an insane piece of machinery and even though many call it a "girl's car" most people who see how it performs and the little tweaks to styling Audi gave it typically do not call it girlie.

I'm still thinking of turning the TT RS in and opting for a v10 R8 though.

Don't forget the US version is 360bhp in std form.
The EU version is 340bhp and the plus is just the mild map used by the US cars on the EU cars with horrible alloys plus a large extra markup for the privilege no doubt.

    Confused....

Not sure about girlie, how do you define a girlie car...but i will say i did notice a very large number of TTs are driven by females.

There is no criteria for a "girl's" car, but every now and then it happens. Examples which spring to mind are the Triumph Spitfire, Mazda Miata (MX-5), new VW Beetle, and the TT. With the possible exception of the Beetle, performance potential is not what makes the reputation. For example, in racing, the Spitfire is more than a match for it's larger more "manly" TR stable mates. Styling, however, is a different thing. Cars like the TT, from a styling perspective, just don't speak testosterone.

I have seen modified Honda Civics which will comprehensively whip any Audi factory offering, but that doesn't make the Honda anything more than a modified econo box. At the end of the day 99.9% of the populace doesn't know or care about a machine's ultimate speed. Most people would be shocked to learn there is a version of the TT capable of such performance. When they see an R8, they assume performance.

It is stunning to me that people would cross shop an R8 and a TT. If you're worried the TT could be faster than an R8, then you probably aren't really an R8 customer. The R8 is about the looks, performance, and ownership experience. The vast majority of them are never driven anywhere near their full potential. The TT is a pocket rocket du-jur. A year from now there will be something else, equally forgettable, and even faster to boot. Then what will you have?
