Another 2 tenths knocked off the time of the standard tt rs putting it at 4.1s (compared to 4.6s for the v8 r8 and 3.9s for the r8 v10).

--- WARNING! Poster never takes anything seriously. No really, I mean it. ---
my only concern is that Audi are making their other cars get very close to the speed of the R8, is any one else worried by this given the differential you pay for for the top end audi?!? i guess lambo or ferrari don't make 'normal' cars if i can say that ... so likes of large manufactiures who build a super car are playing with fire...not sure i want to buy a R8 in future if the TTRS is just as fast, doesn't make the R8 as special...may be its just me lol

I think there are several issues at play with it.
the v8 r8 was not in a different league speed-wise to many "normal" cars when it was launched - never mind 5 years later. if anything, the tt rs plus reflects the reality of the way "normal" cars have gone - audi have to compete with other manufacturers.
the other issue is just how narrow 0-62 is as a measure of differential between cars. even just in performance terms, the difference between cars can widen as the speeds climb - and then there's the effect handling has too.
beyond just performance, the r8 is a markedly different ownership proposition to the tt rs plus.
I guess it depends on which elements are most important to you - for some, things like performance figures and the type of transmission on offer are a higher factor than they are for others. horses for courses and all that.

I'm battling with this one at the moment, I really want an R8, I can't stretch to a V10, just imagine how the TTRS goes when Revo work their magic and the 335 or 360 for the TTRS plus turns into 410hp.
As said by ignomini it's a girls car, but that makes it even worse when one runs rings around your (or my) R8
there are pretty much always faster, cheaper cars out there - no matter what you drive. for some, speed is their only real attribute. I've been driving r8's for coming up to 4 years now, and it still has a sense of occasion for me no matter what speed I'm driving at. I still miss the sound of the v8 when I hear it in a video. As said by ignomini it's a girls car, but that makes it even worse when one runs rings around your (or my) R8

What do you expect in terms of performance - its a turbo car.
Audi may well address it with the facelifted R8 (sorry had to laugh)
What do you want from a car? 0-60
or a fast balanced handmade sports car?
Audi do need to look at their engine/range policy, why dont the R8s have chargers or turbos?
Large engines are soon to follow the dinosaurs, that's the reason i sold my RS TT and got an R8.
Yes i "could" have chipped it up to 410bhp, but it doesn't handle or drive like a mid engined sports car.
It drives like a fast TT.
I'd also point out the plus is akin to the GT - would you have a GT over a plus?
Lets hope the premium charged for the plus is nothing like whats being charged for the GT!
audi want to keep the high revving nature of the R8's in the facelift and new R8, so expect the 4.2 and 5.2 to remain
they say it gives the car the highly strung feel with the noise and instant power delivery of the NA
I agree
As for the TTRS, as with blackspyder, I have also owned one (alongside the R8), im now in a S4 but have another TTRS arriving in April
they are stupid fast cars, and do map easily to 410PS, and with Stronic are brutal straight line cars
BUT
the chassis feel is no where near the R8, the steering is as numb as anything
great engine, great gearbox, great brakes .... thats about it
but hasnt the R8 got a great engine, gearbox (manual) and brakes ?!?! add to that near perfect mid engine weight distribution, exclusive looks and rarity
The TTRS is a great little car, but not in the same league as an R8 ... and the only people who will argue the case the other way are TTRS owners who have never owned, or properly experienced an R8
