    how to wash the R8

i thought i would put up a post on here to help you keep the R8 looking at its best. this will help you from keeping your R8 free from swirls

    a pic of swirls

this is caused bad bad washing

and this is how it should look like

    ok then

first off you need 2 buckets for this

soap in one bucket and just water in the other

a good wash mittlike this one for the bodywork

and a microfibre wash mitt for the wheels like this one

to foam the car you need a foam lance like this one

a good Pressure washer like this one

    http://www.karcher.co.uk/product.php?pr=90

    and some water

first off is to clean the wheels for the R8 i find the wheels are good for cleaning as it as ample space to get into the inside without using a brush so i use a microfibre was mitt for this job on a R8

so with the foam lance and using a citrus cleaner spray the wheels then using the microfibre was mitt to clean the wheel and rinse the wash mitt very often

    before

    after

once the wheels are clean time for the body work

again with foam lance spray the citrus in at the wheel arches, front bumber along the side pannels and around the raer of the car then spray the rest of the car

the R8 with citrus through the foam lance

for the next step is the foam through the foam lance

with the foam spray from the top down

the R8 with the foam on for 5 mins

after 5 mins rinse the foam off the car with the karcher

so the next step is to wash the R8 with the 2 buckets and a lambs wool mitt.
put the wash mitt in the soapy bucket and start on the roof of the R8 and only do a small section at a time, then rinse the mitt in the clear water before putting the wash mitt back into the soapy water, this way your not putting any dirt back onto the R8 and inflicting any damage to the fine paint work, when washing you always work from top to bottom and in straight lines

so the R8 is now wash and its time to dry it off

i`m using a leaf blower here
this is the way i like to dry the R8 off as your not touching the paint work but you can use drying towels like this one

i hope this will help you on cleaning the car but feel free to ask any Q`s

    mike

I have a RS4, I use a zymol sponge, I think you have to be extra careful with a mitt(grit trapped).

The foam lance is brill ..

Also I use P21S on the wheels, Porsche also have this and apparently cheaper than the OEM bottle ... that has to be a first ..

I also use the towels from the polishing company .. the Green ones ..

hot water when I want it ... just for the wheels or arches ...

    wheels

    Keeps the wheels clean ...

hi andy nice bit of kit you got there and the brushes you use are now out of stock

as you use the zymol sponge this is the only sponge i would every use but as you said about the mash mitt trapping dirt if wash it out and rinse it out(i rinse mine out with the attachment i got with a gilmour and works fine)
also with using a foam lance takes 99% of the dirt off the car

Re: how to wash the R8

That's a really useful post! I've washed mine only a couple of times and already it's got swirls all over it! Mine is phantom black and the paint does seem to be really really soft. It picks up scuffs and scratches so easily.
You mention citrus spray, foam and soap - are there any particular brands of these you would recommend?
Also, you didn'y mention the dreaded engine bay....how would you go about cleaning that?
    Thanks for your help.

I recognize your Brinkmann Dual Xenon LOL

    I'm a Dutch detailer.

Use Chemical Guys Wheel Guard for your Wheels. Or Poorboy's Wheel Sealant, or the Original Wheel Wax. It's better then the Jetseal on your Wheels.

At this moment I've Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant and Natty's Blue on my Daytona R8
