Wax treatment

Can anyone recommend a top quality wax for Phantom Black? Also what are the pros and cons of soft and hard waxes - which should I use on the R8?

You will get lots of opinions about different brands and types, but soft is easier to apply whereas hard is better.

no joke have the car prep correctly ... it is just not the wax ...

check detailing world and find someone near you .... really really worth doing right.

Cheers. I am learning but v careful about the prep. I am using Autoglym HD at the mo, which looks great to my eye, once I have followed the prep steps from a thread on this site.

As I'm not into a pissing match on waxes, I've used too many in the past and P21S gives the deepest gloss shine in the industry. Made in Germany.

I used Swissvax Saphir on my Phantom Black MK2 TT that produced stunning results IMHO. Still use it on the R8 (daytona) as well and the pop it gives the paint in the sunlight is unreal

As you are finding out though its all about the prep, waxing is the easy part

Thank you for this tip. I have used Zaino's polymer ...good results after three coats. More recently I polished it with Wolfgang's Deep Gloss sealant ...better results. Then I read your posting and bought some P21S ... on top of the Wolfgang's the result is really excellent; it looks like there is a film of smooth liquid over the surface of the paint (and it was quite easy to apply).

Not a problem. Most waxes are polymer or synthetic-based and are formulated to last a long time between waxes with a medium shine.

P21S is pure carnauba. This gives you the highest shine possible but also requires a re-application before the summer is out.

After reading this thread, I wanted to try the P21S 100% carnauba wax. So I ordered it from Amazon, and while I was there ordered an acrylic "wax" that claimed a very glossy wet-look shine, for my other cars. That product is Klasse High Gloss.

So I put the P21S on the R8, and tried the Klasse on the NSX. They're right next to each other in the garage, and so I can compare them under the same light right together. The P21S is indeed a very pretty high-gloss shine that looks wet, and went on and off very easily. It's easier to apply than any other pure carnauba wax I've ever tried. I used to use Zymol, and it was a lot tougher to remove. I really like the P21S.

But the huge surprise to me is the Klasse. That stuff produces a shine that looks to me exactly like the P21S. Beautiful wet-look glossy shine, every bit as good as the P231S when compared on a car right next to it, at least to my eyes. But it's acrylic and it's rock-hard. You can just tell it's going to last for a very long time it's so darn hard. The downside is that it takes a lot of work to get it off after it dries to a haze. It takes serious muscle to buff it off, a power buffer would probably help. It made me work up a sweat. But the results are remarkable for an acrylic product.

So I like the P21S for the finishes I want to baby, but I'm going to use the Klasse on my other cars where I want really strong long-lasting protection.

My opinion would be for a budget wax try chemical guys 50/50 looks awesome on black.

However if you want to push the boat out and use what i use it has to be Zymol Vintage.

Or try the Zaino sealant system that gets the looks and the durability is awesome.
