    Rinseless Process of Cleaning R8?

    Hello,

Has anyone had experience or currently have their R8 cleaned via the "rinse-less" process? Would you recommend or stay away? I'm left with this option at my community since the association/city does not allow normal car washes.

Re: Rinseless Process of Cleaning R8?

I have used a so-called "waterless car wash" but am concerned that it just adds to the scratching and swirling of the clear coat. It's easy enough to use: spray on, use a microfiber cloth to spread it around the panel, allow a few seconds for it to dry, and then buff out using a dry microfiber polishing cloth. It works fine for between real car washes but I don't know I'd want to use it as my only means of washing the car, though I guess one could. It's actually easier and faster than real washing because real washing takes forever to dry whereas this method uses so little water that it dries to a whitish film which you simply polish off. If it weren't for my fear that it adds to the tiny scratches I'd use it instead of water because it really is a lot easier than drying a wet car with a chamois and microfiber towels.

One thing I'd like to point out: if you spray it under the hood, for example, or in the door jambs, be careful not to spray onto areas where you can't then reach and buff out because it leaves behind white water stains wherever you don't polish it off. Those stains can be polished off if you can reach them. Also, don't spray it on the egg crate black plastic air vents at the rear of the car because you'll then need a Q-tip to polish it off.

I have used the Chemical Guys waterless detail products for over a year now, between normal washes & details. I usually get my car detailed every 3-4 months and personally hand wash it every 1-2 weeks (depending on usage). I use the hand sprayer to mist the car after I get home between these other cleanings.

The biggest thing to remember to do is keep using a clean part of the microfiber towel to wipe the dirt off. I only mist one area of the car at a time (like the hood, front fender, rear quarter or roof). I usually fold the towel in quarters and as I am wiping I am rotating the towel to keep using a clean section. Once the first quarter is dirty, I rotate to another clean section. I also have another clean/dry towel in my other hand to buff the area that was just clean.

It seems like a great way to keep the car looking good between the real washes. It also works great for road trips (just bring plenty of clean towels).

What about cars with 3M or venture shield which I have on my R8. Does these cleaning systems cause any problems?

I would be very careful what you use on the clear bra film. On white cars, using the wrong cleaning materials will cause the film to discolor slightly over time from the dyes in the cleaning products. Any scratches from rubbing will show up against the dark paints, and the film by it's nature is pretty soft. Just my $0.02 worth.

Im a solid believer in Zaino products. Amazing stuff. but washing is the biggest pain, FL water is sooo freaking hard..almost impossible to dry without spots...

Interested in using the waterless products.

but also want to do the clear bra thing... love bugs are nasty down here..and that should help alot... wonder if the Zaino products are a problem on a the films...

Have you considered getting a deionized water setup? If you are washing your own cars, this is the only way to go. The setups can be rented from local water treatment companies.
