    Shiny, Creased Convertible Top

I realize that there aren't many Spyders in existence much less represented here, but has anyone else encountered the problems pictured here? My car is only 3 months old, is always garaged, and the top is usually folded and out of sight so I don't understand why it shows these shiny spots (like an over-ironed pair of dress pants) and creases. I've never folded the top while wet or even damp so I know it isn't that (though I don't recall when I first noticed these issues as they may have come with the car and just went unnoticed, so I suppose the dealer could have put the top down wet). More importantly, what can I do about it? Any and all suggestions are welcome & appreciated.

It appears to be where the material meets after the fold. It's probably the material chaffing on itself.

I wonder if a damp cloth would wipe it away?

Seems like that is a result of always keeping the roof folded up. The markings are mirrored, so it's a contact issue between the folded parts of the cover in the boot. No idea what you can do about it though. Leave the top up to reduce that from happening. Are you folding up your roof with it being dusty or dirty?

I think it is indeed caused by being closed too much. If the top has to come up, the car is usually idle and not used because I really like listening to the exhaust and our winter weather is perfect for top down driving and that's the best way to hear the exhaust. I think it is also true that the contact between surfaces rubbing on one another has caused the shine. The solution appears to be to keep the top up when I'm not driving it so as to keep it stretched and hopefully washing will cause the shine to go away and the creases will relax over time.
I wonder why it all seems so obvious now but totally stumped me before?

Just one of those dreaded Duh moments we all suffer from at times.

I generally sit back and laugh at myself when I have a good one too. Walk away going "Well, I'll be darned!"

I just sold a Bentley GTC and the owners manual stressed to put the top down only when clean and dry and when not using the car with the top down, always store the car with the top up.

And yet the schmucks at Naples Bentley delivered my GTC Speed back to me after servicing with a fresh wash and the top put down completely wet!

My Spyder roof has the same marks but not to the same extent.

My Spyder always has the roof up when in the garage and I never put it down when wet.

I know for a fact that the roof material and frame is a outsourced product and is not Audi Manufactured.

They come into the factory as a complete unit from another company for fitting.

In saying that I think Audi has been a bit deficient in it's quality control specs for the level of the R8.

one suggestion I could give u is when folding the top down put a dry towel or micro fiber cloth flat in between there, was an old trick on older Porsche convertibles I used to do that

    Re: Shiny, Creased Convertible Top

I think the situation is the same with other convertibles. I've had quite a few convertibles and all of them creased. Worst still, on the Porsche turbo, the creases got so bad that they started to wear out at the most stressed points which lead me to wonder if this would happen with the R8 over time.
Top should always be up when not in use.
The towel trick was really to protect the vinyl rear window from scratching, but since they now use glass I'm not sure it is also recemmended, however, this is just an assumption.
If anyone knows how to clean out the shinny part, would also love to know
