    Carbon sideblade

My wife just received her R8 V10 with Carbon sideblades. I was rubbing with a micro fiber cloth and scratch the sideblade. Does anyone know the best way to remove these scratches from the Carbon sideblade?

I would use the opportunity to do a nice coat of wax. I use a cleaner wax with a variable speed orbital polisher, then the caranauba wax. should buff out by hand though.

Just out of curiosity, why were you rubbing the sideblade with the micro fibre cloth? Were you applying wax or polish at the time? If the scratches are not too serious, I find Meguiar's Scratch-X works pretty well. But then of course, you're applying it with another micro fibre cloth, so hopefully it doesn't cause you any more problems.

If you can, try to find edgeless micro fibre cloths whenever possible. That will reduce the chances of you accidentally scratching the surface of your car when using the cloth for polishing or buffing.

    Re: Carbon sideblade

I was trying to rub out an inherent smudge on the carbon fiber and did not know the carbon fiber had a top layer that was scratchable. I spoke with a high end Detailer and he mentioned doing the same thing. The dealer who I purchased from is bringing to our house his Detailer of 20 years and mentioned using a product he uses on chrome? I should have not rubbed so hard and now have scratches. The micro fiber towel was soft w/o edging. I just had too much elbow grease. I feel terrible as my wife literally had the car in our garage for only 10 minutes. Thanks.

Don't worry about it. They'll get you sorted. It's not a big deal.

There is a thick layer of resin on the surface of the CF. It is easily repairable by any detailer.

If you have the CF interior, pay attention to the drivers door panel when you let go of the seat belt. Try as I can to avoid doing it, I seem to put small nicks in the drivers door panel when I let go of the seat belt. This drives me nuts. I am getting some 3M clear bra material added to my drivers door panel.

Thanks. That should put my mind to rest. I've been told Meguiars scratch X will remove the scrathes?

You said a dealer's detailing partner of 20 years, someone clearly experienced, is coming to help...
