How Much Is Too Much for a Detail?

May sound stupid, but my detailer of choice is out of commission and needed to get one of my car's detailed. I was quoted by one detailer close to $2k, which I thought was extremely high. I understand the skill and time that goes into it, but this seems excessive (well over 75% more than what my og detailer charges). Thoughts anyone?

My detailer goes over the car with me . Showing me problems that need attention. Mike does all the work in front of me. I help a little bit. Could run 200.00 for a freshen-up or a thousand for the works. I always get a 25% discount. Try Mike at promobileautodetail. He is ECO friendly as well as a good buddy. You will become his buddy too , after seeing his results/expertise/quality of tools and materials. Good luck.

That sounds to be in line with my expectations. I have heard really good things about this detailer from another forum I frequent, and I was just shocked at the price. Plus, the price of $2k is just an estimate. If there are more "issues" it can change. He's charging based on the amount of time he takes. I'm just not comfortable with the idea of not having a set price for a specific project

Try Aaron here out of Fremont. He travels and is very reasonable, for under $400 (at least in my case), and does great work.

As mentioned above, it depends on who's doing it and what's being done. My polishing details typically run anywhere from $400-1000 depending on what car is detailed and how many polishing steps are involved. However, if someone wants every panel polished to perfection, it can take time and money. Add to that the fact many detailers have different hourly rates for their work, usually based on skill and reputation, and your question becomes extremely broad and hard to answer.

I used Mike at promobileautodetail as Harrison did. He does great work! Not inexpensive to be sure but he is worth it!!

I may have found a potential new detailer. About $500-$700 for what I'm looking for. The other guy @ $2k is ridiculous.

Glad you found someone for a better price, however make sure they're doing quality work. If you describe in more detail what you mean by "what I'm looking for" it would be easier to tell what the expected price should be.

The first detailer i had was $550. It took Mike 20 hours to correct his mistakes (swirles and scratches). Buyer beware!!
