Heikki Kovalainen Crashes Audi R8 LMS at Race of Champions Event [Video]

Formula 1 pilot Heikki Kovalainen crashed his Audi R8 LMS race car at the Race of Champions event over the weekend – how embarrassing. To make it worse, his girlfriend was riding shotgun.

The accident was reportedly the result of a suspension failure – which is what we hope they'd say about us if we were one of the world's best drivers, piloting an awesome race car with our girlfriend in the passenger seat.

Neither Kovalainen nor his girlfriend were injured, although the crash is pretty cool to watch.

During the curve bevor Kovalainen hits the wall with the passengers side. This was the reason the suspension failed and he lost the car control

Perhaps Kovalainen crashed because the organizers didn't know they were supposed to spray the floor with orange soda first? That's what happens when you don't read R8Talk regularly, you get technically out of date!

The concrete floor's been cleaned and mopped and then we spray a mist of orange soda (highest sugar content) on the floor and let it dry. Makes the surface nice and sticky.
