    Exactly!
It really was a no-brainer that Audi would not have made such changes so soon after release of GT.

Guys for it is worth, only yesterday I was talking to my local dealer who categorically told me that he had taken a deposit on the first R8 S tronic car.
The question is, why would the dealer take a deposit if it was not going to happen

Dealers will take deposits on anything - audi have not announced an s-tronic car, if it doesn't materialize they'll just refund the deposit. Happens all the time.

added: take a look here for an example, the R8 TDI which never happened:

Despite the information given by my local dealer, I just received a letter from Audi:

    Audi R8 order

    Dear Mr ******

We are writing to confirm that we have received notification from ***** Audi that you have placed a deposit for a V12 TDI Concept derivative of the R8.

Currently, we have no official information regarding this model and whilst we have registered your details accordingly, this is not an acknowledgement that the vehicle will be scheduled for production.
We will contact you immediately should we receive any information.

In the meantime, should you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the R8 Sales Support team here at Audi UK at any time who will do all they can to assist you.

    Yours sincerely

My thought is to drive it as much as possible this way I know that the real depreciation is being will be caused by my piling on the miles on the R8 and hence directly related to the amount of enjoyment that I am getting from it instead of worrying about facelifts and the like on a garage queen Audis are for drivers!
I agree completely. I use my R8 daily for everything, don't care where I park it, drive it dirty or clean, how many miles I'm going, whether it's raining or foggy. And I'm just having a blast. Every time I get in and drive I still have a big smile.

the update will occur in 2012 CY not MY. it will be MY 2013 since that is when current gallardo production ends and new ~600 hp gallardo replacement starts (LP 600-4).

ps- the update will prob be just a small power boost. i still have doubts about a new tranny (although audi may have figured out how to install it in the current floorplan based upon the very minimal changes that are going to be made to the next R8 vs the current one since the current one is **** near perfect).

I was in Ingolstadt this week. Nothing official, but from chatting with Audi folks they are definitely working on a new tranny for the R8. No details at all, but I was assured it would be something special.

It's like the technology, as soon as you buy it there is something new in the pipeline. At what point do just accept what you have and enjoy it. DrDavid121
