Total 12 buyers, please can you confirm when we can purchase this kitAfter seeing your post I am very excited about it and am lucky that I have not bought a filter flow kit already!
Hey guys, forgot to post here, but this is the update sent to me last week (7/13)
So we're still on track here!Despite the lack of posts the wheels are turning on this project. So far we have determined the window material to be used and ran tests to determine a proper fastening method. I expect to sign off on the production of a sample tomorrow that, when made, can be shown to everyone. This way everyone will have a picture of exactly what they are buying along with a price so there are no surprises. At that time we will take deposits and determine a delivery date.
Great! Thanks Outsider for following up.
Hi Everyone,
Now for the moment everyone has been waiting for. Photos and group buy pricing. This post should be the definitive post with all the info you will need to make a decision. Point form is easiest so here goes:
How much?
The good news is that we managed to come in below all of the estimates and we will offer 3 options:
1. Just the airbox lid with the windows (for V8 or V10 cars): $1390
2. The complete intake kit with window lids, filters, and adapters for R8 V8 cars: $1700
3. The complete intake kit with window lids, filters, and adapters for R8 V10 cars: $2090
All pricing is in USD and INCLUDES shipping to anywhere in the Continental US or Canada. Overseas orders will be billed whatever extra it would cost us to ship to them (ie. US shipping cost - International rate = what you pay extra)
What weave will the lids be and how is it finshed?
The carbon weave will be the same as that shown in the photos. It matches the OEM weave offered by Audi in the R8 when fitted with the optional carbon engine bay panels. Also the clear coat matches that used by Audi.
What are the windows made of and how are they held in?
The windows are made of an automotive grade Perspex and are resistant to yellowing, heat, and breakage. The windows are held in by an aerospace adhesive that is compatible to both the carbon and Perspex. Both windows and glue are rated for environmental conditions that go way beyond what any engine bay would ever be exposed to.
Order and deposit info
These lids will be made to order based on at least 10 people sending in a deposit. The deposit will be $300 and is payable by:
1. Paypal to info@carbonio.com Include ship to information in transaction along with your R8Talk Username.
2. By credit card. E-mail or PM me a phone number with a time to reach you to rob@carbonio.com and I will take your info by phone.
The deposit confirms your intention to buy and is non-refundable. Other people are counting on your involvement to make this happen so if you sell, roll, burn, loose your licence or have the police sieze your R8 you are still on the hook for the deposit.
How long before I get my lids?
Because these are made to order we need 5-6 weeks to have lids ready to ship. The clock starts as soon as the 10th person confirms their deposit. Feel free to pressure the others as I will update this post as people come on board.
Lastly here are the photos. This is exactly what the lid looks like. To see the entire (non window) kit you can view it at:
V8: http://www.carbonio.com/performancec...r8v8airbox.htm
V10: http://www.carbonio.com/performancec...8v10airbox.htm
I’m sure you guys can figure out (but I will post it anyways) that if you order the complete kit at the group buy price you get the parts shown in the link above with the window airbox lid replacing the solid one shown in the Carbonio website links.

if you have the (oem) carbon cover, is it worth anything on exchange? (I am assuming this, without window, is part of the factory carbon engine cover kit, but maybe I'm wrong? don't have my car yet)

The OEM cover is not worth anything to us as we re-make them from scratch with the windows. E-bay or the classifieds should net a few bucks to offset the purchase of a window airbox lid
You are correct that as part of the factory carbon engine bay panel kit that the airbox lid will be in carbon.
I'll take it...![]()
I'm in, Will send you a PM with a time and number to call me today. So come on people lets get this done quick so they can get working on this. Also for those who want to sell the stock one you should not have much of a problem , Audi sells just the Carbon fibber air box cover for $1,222. I already have people willing to buy my stock box
Thanks for the feedback guys. I will update the list at the end of the day with whatever deposits are confirmed.
Just a clarification and I ammended my post to reflect this. The airbox lid fits both the V8 and the V10 powered cars so if you are thinking of trading up then the parts will carry over. The EVOMS and PPI intakes will NOT carry over however we do offer a carbon fiber intake option so it is always possible to mix and match parts to let you fit both a V8 and a V10.
