Re: Genuine R8 iPhone 3G/S Cradle OEM

So I have to admit, I'm a little backward about phone issues!

Can someone explain the "cradle" deal to me?

I understand the advantage of onboard integrated charging and antennas, but where/how does it connect to the car? Is it a factory or dealer installed option? I haven't heard a word about it as an option from my dealer, either before ordering (not on the order guide) or when we "toured" the parts dept. and they told me about floor mats, etc., etc.. Is it not offered in the US?

I don't have an iPhone (yet), but when the lines calm down for the 4G, I'm probably going to bite the bullet and replace my old faithful Treo

Don't buy the iPhone4 it's a POS!!! I have never had worse reception. Now I can't even talk on the phone in my own house. I have to stand next to the front door when I get calls. Sorry for the hi-jack.

IIRC In the UK 'Blue-tooth mobile phone prep' gives you a base plate in the rearmost armrest compartment. You then buy the cradle to suit your phone.

FWIW I have has an IP4 for the last few days and mine works great and I am in a poor signal area most of the day too :-)

I guess the UK and US versions are different; all US cars have "phone prep" as far as I know (it's not a order item) and it consists of your phone talking to/through the car's audio system via B.T.

a.f.a.i.k., there's no place FOR a cradle, unless.....the spot you refer to has the aux in jack for the audio system....does it connect thru that ???

also, you say you "buy the cradle that matches your phone" ; I have not seen any offering or cataloging of phone cradles from Audi USA....I can only conclude we've got a different system...too bad, it would be nice to be able to use the cars antenna for improved reception and output

Re: Genuine R8 iPhone 3G/S Cradle OEM

In Europe you need the 9ZF option code to fit a cradle:

Mobile telephone preparation – Low, with Bluetooth and voice control. Provides handsfree connection via Bluetooth using mobile phone aerial. Alternatively it can use a cradle with charging facility for optimal reception via external aerial. Cradle available at extra cost – please contact your Audi Centre for phone compatibility. Located in storage compartment on centre console. Voice control is not available on R8 Spyder.

In the US it is listed as 9ZG.

There are tons of different cradles, but they are EU only pieces almost exclusively.

    Cheers,
    Alexander van Gerbig
