I'm the holder of the next R8 V10 Coupe build slot from Sunset Audi in (no sales tax) Beaverton, OR. I'd love for you to take delivery of it, built to your specs, with only delivery miles.
I paid a $1000 refundable deposit to Sunset in October 2008. My deposit agreement (which I'd be happy to furnish you a copy of) with Sunset stipulates three things you must know:
1 - My delivery slot is not transferrable. Otherwise, I'd just sell you the slot, and be done.
2 - They will sell me the car at MSRP, including options.
3 - The car must be originally titled to me.
I've been working with James FitzPatrick, and according to him here's how the order process works:
Sunset submits the order, options and all, to Audi.
When Audi "picks up" the order, a non-refundable $20,000 deposit is due. You'll have a VIN within about two weeks.
The car is built.
The car is shipped, and then delivered.
At that point, I take delivery of the car, and sell it to you immediately. I do mean immediately. I don't need to even start the car, it will be on the showroom floor.
James is estimating up to four weeks for Audi to "pick up" the order, which starts the build process.
You won't write me a check until you buy the car from me. You will, however, be writing Sunset Audi a check for $20,000 when you've decided on your options.
I'd like to get at least $5000 for saving you two years of waiting. And while I'll go with the highest bidder, my bottom dollar is $1000 (due at delivery) for my trouble.
Some of you do deals for a living, and if you can think of a deal structure simpler or easier than this one, I'm all ears.
If I get no takers, I'll just get my deposit refunded, and the slot will go to the next person on Sunset's waiting list.
If you'd like to be driving a V10 R8 in about 10-12 weeks built to your specs, please contact me.
