I found some old 1GB SD-Card on amazon.de (non HC).
Or try using an MicroSD wth an SD-Card-Adapter, in germany both well selled together

 

I bought some transend 4gb non hc cards in 09 when I bought the car (4gb being the biggest size non hc card there is). Wanted to buy two more in 2011 but could not find any. Kept checking for 6 months on amazon and eBay. Reading your post made me check amazon again with no luck BUT on eBay I found this guy selling 4GB non hc cards! I just bought two. I hope they are the real deal.
Grab two now as these are not always gonna be around!

can you guys find me a non hc-card in the united states? all i could find is a 2gb at my local walmart, but if i could get two 4gb i could get all my music on them. thanks guys

Just want to report that the ebay listing in message #4 above just arrived and played perfectly the first time in my 2009 4.2...so get 'em while they still got 'em. I can imagine these will be very hard to find in 5 years.

 

is there a software update so it can read HC cards?

 

I'm not aware of any such update...
