    Smile Lightweight Track wheels wanted

The wheels must be lighter than the Stockers, otherwise I'll probably get a second set of SAME.

    Re: Lightweight Track wheels wanted

The stock wheels are pretty light, it's tough to find lighter ones. Instead of getting the same old thing again, why not get a set of schnazzy wheels to use with the street tires (which will likely be heavier but that's fine for the street), and use the stock wheels for track tires? That's what I've done on a few cars.

The OE wheels are really light. Dymag is the way to go if you want light...

The Dymags are beauty too! I do want to stick with 19s. Good advice though, MT.

    Re: Lightweight Track wheels wanted

OZ wheels are probably the best ones. They make wheels for the F1 races, and are top quality manufacturer.

There are several stories about Dymags falling apart at hi speeds, and doing terrible damage to the cars. I think they are much more for show, than go. Beware.

The Ultraleggera HLT ( High Light Technology ) are probably best for the R8. But these are NOT yet available. Looks like first part of 2010.

Yes, they are within 1-3 LBS. I believe.

Personally, I follow the MotherTucker method.

Thumbs up Re: Lightweight Track wheels wanted

If I could save 2-4lbs per wheel and still be worthy, I will do it along with the Spring kit.

    Re: Lightweight Track wheels wanted

Dymag in 19" are 17lbs front and 19lbs rear. 4+ pounds saved at every corner.

There have been a lot of issues with the Dymag wheels in the past and we've had to warranty a few sets of them here. That said, the latest batch are all made from a magnesium-aluminum hybrid, which blends the light weight of mag with the strength and resilience of alu.

The new versions also look great, with a tapered spoke to give them some nice dish.

As a compromise, HRE is building wheels using their proven centers with the Dymag barrels.
