    Need a set of wheels

I am going to put DOT slicks on mine so I need another set of wheels for the R8. I can either leave these on the car and add slicks to yours, or whatever. I just need another set of wheels.

Tires - great, but not entirely necessary. Thanks!

Usually the quickest and often the most affordable option is to get a set of OZ Ultraleggera HLT wheels from Tire Rack.

(Although I just checked, and I see they are out of stock on the fronts for several weeks. )

Tire Rack says the Ultraleggera fronts will be available January 10th. I probably scooped up the last of their stock of fronts 2 weeks ago for track use. I highly recommend them. They are very light and easy to mount, and they clean up easily. Tire rack does a great job of reminding you to get the TPMS sensors, and offers to install them with your choice of tires for you. If you're willing to get the Hoosier slicks, I think you can get them delivered with sensors and tires already installed.

If you don't mind me asking, what did the wheels and slicks cost you?

    Thanks for the info.

    OZ Wheels - US$ 1,792

    Hoosier Slicks - US$ 1,280

    Total - US$ 3,082

Go to Tire Rack and look up the stuff. It's there.

Re: Need a set of wheels

Thanks a bunch! That may be the way to go. People I've spoken to on the Audi wheels are a little nutty with their pricing.

Maybe someone can tell me if there's any downside on going to the OZ rims. I've heard that with larger brembo brakes, there's a problem with fit. Do you know if the sizes are the same?

    Thanks again!

The OZ Ultraleggera HLT wheels work for me. I think they are one of the top 3 wheels that can be bought for an R8 at any price. No downside in any way.

Re: Need a set of wheels

I agree, no downside. I took the O.Z. Ultraleggera HLTs onto the track 2 days ago, no problems whatsoever. If my signature picture shows up here, it shows them from today, after the track, in silver.

A lap from Sunday's track trip can be seen at my youtube page, just search for ExhilR8ng and look at the clip shot from the grandstand (I can't post urls to this board yet...)

the clip is from Sandia Motor Speedway, which is a 1.7 mile course with 14 turns, 2 at 180 degrees, very tight indeed. This run had a top speed 110 mph, avg speed > 60 mph.

    Love the Ultraleggeras...

Re: Need a set of wheels

Thanks All! I think this is definitely the way to go. I did here trouble though with fitting the wheels over the new Brembos - so I am gonna research that prior to making the move. Appreciate the help though. Speaking of brakes, I've replaced my fronts with the Brembos - but they don't make a rear. Of course now, my rear discs are warped... any suggestions? Why don't Audi just put larger slotted brakes on these babies?
