    Looking for a R8

    Wanted to say hi.
I'm from the west midlands in england
I was looking for a GT-R but after seeing some of the problems there having mainly silly things and living so far away from any dealers takes the fun away from owning a performance car if its 100s of miles away all the time.

This has brought me to look at R8s I think my budget would only stretch to a low millage R8 4.2

Are there any problems with the R8 even If there small?

    Would I be better to wait(save up) and get a 5.2 v10?

I've never drove a automatic always had manual(stick) but fancy having R-tronic but would this take away from the driving experience.
I've never driven ether one and the dealerships aren't too keen on taking me out in one due to my age. Which is a hassle to find the right car.

I've got insurance quotes which I'm very happy with on the v10 and the v8 so thats not a problem.

What are running costing like? i.e servicing costs tyres, would only do a few 1000s miles and 5 or less track days a year I have another car for daily use.

I'm no expert on the car (dsiclaimer).
    Question 1: I don't understand this question

Question 2: This sounds like for your financial considerations to guide decision making, unless the question pertains to something like -do I regret buying the v8 over the v10- kinda question. FWIW, sometimes I think about selling two of my cars (includes the V8) then buying a 599 GTO and forget other future desires.
The intermittently burning part of my ego (I'm a neuropsychiatrist so I can talk about ego yet remain biological) leads me to spend money and enjoy the short time of life. WE DO HAVE A SHORT TIME ON THIS EARTH and one of my strong beliefs include -if your finances allow it, go for the thing or things that you desire-

Question 3: I don' think you'll enjoy the car less driving it with the R-tronic. Its a beautiful car, belonging in a certain niche of the exotics (not to forget the Le Mans blood in it)

Question 4: Never gave it a thought; I think most owners believe the car is reliable. I believe cost shouldn't be a major issue if you're buying over 100K, reliability is the bigger issue (besides fun factor).

At least there are enough head cases in Vegas for you to be able to afford your desires

But I absolutely agree with you, our time is short, and our youth is even shorter. Do it while you're young, I don't think you'll regret it.

No. Had mine for 15 months as a daily driver and never missed a beat. Solidly built and as easy to drive as an A3 when you poodle around town.

No. The V8 rumble is lovely and the performance more than adequate. Of course, if you want the fastest, then only the V10 will do.

Possibly but depends on you really. I had a manual and would always have a manual but I did love the R-Tronic on the track.

Servicing is based on driving so would say for your mileage it will be relatively cheap - far lower than the GTR. Track day use could mean regular tyre changes but what else would you expect?

I say go for it - you will not be disappointed. I bought mine on the phone having never even driven one. I loved it from the moment I saw it, and then it got even better when I drove it.

I'm going to try and see these:
    5.2 v10 h t t p://w w w.pistonheads.com/sales/2197281.htm
    4.2 v8 h t t p://w w w.pistonheads.com/sales/2286754.htm
If I get chance this week. I wanted a blue or white R8 but a lower millage or better spec one would be better and I guess I could live with other colours.

Never been very keen on TTs ever

I started off wanting the GT-R as my dad told me its about time I stopped wasting money "Chav Crap".
