    Retrofit: 2010 RNS-E System

I have seen threads here and on a few other boards and wanted to centralize some of the data that I have gathered together for 2008 & 2009 owners who might be coveting the updated 2010 RNS-E system.

For those not entirely clear on the details, there is an excellent Fourtitude writeup that summarizes the system.

For a 100% OEM retrofit, you will need a 2010 RNS-E system and the corresponding Rear View Camera Controller. We provide both of these as a retrofit kit, inclusive of detailed instructions.

I realize that we can't control every potential buyer in the world, so here is the install in a nutshell:
    - Using radio keys, remove and replace the head unit. Make sure you eject the navigation disc first...
    - Remove the rear parcel shelf. Two 9mm bolts near the center-line of the vehicle will allow the entire cover to lift off. There are four "feet" at the base of the cover which sit inside rubber suction cups when in place. You'll need to wiggle a bit to release these.
    - The RVC module (on LHD & RHD vehicles) is the module closest to the left door. There are three 10mm nuts that secure the bracket to the firewall.
    - Once the bracket is off, the module can be exchanged easily. The connector is the same for both, so no modifications are required.
    - As usual, installation is the reverse of removal. Make sure the parcel shelf is properly seated to avoid damage to the vehicle and blocked access to the CD-Changer or AMI unit.

The coding needs to be updated for two modules.
    - Central Convenience (module 09) needs to have the optical parking disabled.
    - RVC (module 6C) needs to be recoded as follows:
    • Software: 1000412
    • Workshop: 02197
    • Importer: 785
    • Equip No: 00200

On our test cars, these values are the same for '08 V8 and '10 V10. I don't recall if moving the RVC module from car to car wiped these out, but the car had to be programmed to add the guidance lines back in after the swap.

As mentioned above, we have this package available on our website here: RNS-E Navigation Retrofit: 2010

    Next up: AMI Retrofit!

To do the coding update, is that via VAG-COM or does a dealer need to do it? Sorry I'm not overly familiar with Audi tuning, not sure how to get it done

Yes, coding is right through a vag-com

    Hi,

Do you have to recalibrate the rear-view camera when changing the RVC module? Elsawin suggests that this needs to be done.

    Also you say:

The coding needs to be updated for two modules.
    - Central Convenience (module 09) needs to have the optical parking disabled

Do you know the coding for this - also it seems a bit odd to turn optical parking off to get the camera to work!

The calibration for the RVC module should not require a change, as both old and new units use the same alignment/calibration coding. However, it only takes a few minutes so definitely inquire during installation.

I don't have the Byte/Bit coding for the optical change, but I can look for it on our V10 today and update my original post accordingly.

    Re: Retrofit: 2010 RNS-E System

Does this retrofitted unit get the SIG alerts (live traffic updates)? I am under the impression that it is not a real dynamic traffic that shows a lot of data (like ave speeds on all main freeways), but does get the big alerts that are issued (for areas that the service is offered). Is this true? Does the nav unit still use the same DVD map or is a new map disk included?

    Re: Retrofit: 2010 RNS-E System

The (free) TMC service is included with the new unit. It is not as accurate or detailed as the Sirius traffic add-on, but it is functional for basic traffic/accident updates.

The 2010 units come with a new DVD (8P0 919 884 AH), but it is not specific to the unit (confirmed by desperado).

I just received the 2009/2010 update DVD I purchased from Audi (Navteq, actually) for the 2009 nav system in my car. The number on the box and on the DVD is the same as the one you quote above.
