    Ceramic Brakes

Does anyone know what Audi charges for their Ceramic Brake Up Grade?

I am working on un-sprung weight calculations and would like as much info as possible before I proceed with other performance enhancing modifications.

Also I have determined, that by using the HRE/Dymag wheel upgrade that is now available, will produce the additional u-sprung weight I am looking for.

I have spoken to Joey at BBI and we both agree that I will loose quite a bit of un-sprung weight, which will equate to more HP to the ground.

The additional gains by performing the Exhaust and Chip mod should further enhance the performance and HP as well.

I would also replace some of the bodywork with Carbon Fiber, Front and Rear as to balance the car back to its original "Neutral Position" albeit lighter that the original stock R8.

If anyone cares to give me their thoughts on this matter feel free.

    Thanks.

FYI, Joey can be reached at http://www.bbiautosport.com

That seems to be a bit High, but probably in line with what other High End Auto Makers are getting for their Ceramic upgrades, ie;Porsche.

Also do you know what the Exact weight difference is between "Stock" and Ceramic is per Disc.

    Thanks.

    Exclamation Re: Ceramic Brakes

Hey Styler ,If you compare wheels carefully you'll see that you might not save as much weight as expected. It seems the forged 19's that come on the car are VERY light already. But 45 pounds in weight savings for the ceramic rotors is alot. That comes out to 622.00 dollars per pound for weight savings-- through OEMPLUS. Sounds like we should shop around first .Now I'm thinking that neutral might be acheived more easily with the additional downforce of a front spoiler,That is if neutral means that all the wheels would break loose at the same time rather than the way the car is set up from factory to have the rear give out first. If I could find the HRE's at half the price I would get them right away 'cuz they lool so good. I almost had to attend a Carbon Fiber Anonymous meeting (like Alcoholics Anonymous! just kidding) before things get out of hand...But the factory Audi race cars with full carbon bodies are A M A Z I N G !!!!!

    Re: Ceramic Brakes

    Hey Harrison,

What is the weight difference between the "Stock" wheel compared the HRE/Dymag wheel?

If I save 45lbs on the Rotors + ?lbs for the Wheels= Total un-sprung weight saving ?

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: Ceramic Brakes

I think, don't quote me, but I think the C.F. wheels are only two pounds lighter per wheel. That's approx. 2000.00 per pound for unsprung weight savings.Wow these figures are blowing my mind.Remember I am a newbie at this stuff, constantly learning the real facts here. Some people are anti wing because they think the aero mods detract from the look. But if installed properly, adding down force could be your best bang for the buck.(aside from supercharging, nitrous etc.)Where can we drive 180 MPH through turns??The type of agressive carving I do rarely exeeds 100 mph. All that down force could slow you down too,at top speeds. You should ask Desparado or Mothertucker or R84ME for better advice than I can give. These three guys combined know sooo much about what we dream about the R8.

    Re: Ceramic Brakes

    Hey Harrison,

Do you recall the thread with the calculation of un-sprung weight?

If I remember it was very significant.

With all the rest of the upgrades I have planed, the un-sprung weight should be worth their weight in "Gold" even if it cost as much as well.

I know about the "CF" anonymous problem as I have been involved with this material for almost 30yrs.

    It is addicting!

I am just doing the preliminary math calculations of my expected enhancements.

I want to build a streetable GT3 version less the huge rear wing.

I have something else planed for that one!

Anyway I have spoken with many of my old Porsche friends and I am trying to get their input as well.

    Cross Breeding if you will.

    Thanks as always.

Wanna put the R8 on a diet? Rip out the original seats and go for a Carbon Fibre bucket seat. You'll save 30kg instantly!!
