Repairing slight scuff to R8 wheel

Unfortunately, had my R8 all of 2 days and very slightly scraped the left front wheel on a curb. Only minor right on the actual rim but still i want it perfect again really especially as ive only had the car a couple days!

There's a company in the UK who do mobile wheel repairs, Wicked Wheels, has anyone used them? Unfortunately they say that as the R8 has diamond cut wheels they will need them for 7 days rather than the usual mobile jobs they do.

I would be interested to hear from anyone whose had one of their wheels diamond cut to repair them, and feedback on whether you can tell between the repair and factory new ones.

    Thanks.

I was told by the dealer and the local wheel repair shop that there was nothing that could be done on the R8 wheels. They said a new wheel was the only solution. I hope you get a better solution than I was given.

The wheel repair shop charged $346 per wheel on my A8L to remove curb scuffs that were there when I purchased the car.

I had a really bad "curb" on my rear wheel repaired via my local Audi dealer here in the US ...so it can be done (trouble was they took the wheel for two weeks so I bought a new one anyway ...now have a spare but it looks like new after the repair).

Re: Repairing slight scuff to R8 wheel

I wonder if it has to do with the R8 wheel being forged alloy, as opposed to cast?
I suspect the forged material is significantly tougher and denser, especially on the surface.

With painted alloy wheels they sometimes use filler, sand smooth and refinish just like body metal, but obviously they can't do that on a polished metal surface.
Does anyone know: is the R8 wheel clear coated or just bare metal? (suspect coated)

I would be interested to know the cost too, but i expect it will be a decent amount more here in the UK unfortunately!

Im pretty sure with the forged alloy the face is diamond cut, and can be diamond cut again. They "shave" a tiny amount off the whole face of the wheel, re-diamond cutting it again to remove the scuff and it should look new again. Cost over here is £125 + VAT which is about $235.

I was also considering the new wheel option, but it is a really minor mark on mine, ill try to post some pictures to get your thoughts. Would potentially be good to have a spare but then what happens if you scuffit again... don't really want to keep buying new wheels each time!

The price for the new rim was $885.26. The tire, which I also had to replace, was $636.00. The repair to the damaged rim (which now looks like new) was $247.00. This was last year in July or thereabouts.

Where abouts is that? Did they diamond cut it again i assume... how does it look with the face "shaved" down slightly, can you tell the difference?

If it's around £750 in the UK then i may get a new one, swap the tyre around and have this one repaired so i have a spare in case it happens again, that way i wont have to wait the 7-10 days or so getting it repaired and having no car!
