How does the Magnetic Ride Suspension work?

    Start with this link:
http://www.audiusa.com/us/brand/en/t...etic_ride.html (No longer works, try this one:
    http://www.audiusa.com/search?query=magnetic+ride#

In comfort mode (indicator light off) the suspension damping rate is softer than the standard base suspension.
In sport mode (indicator light on) the suspension damping rate is stiffer than the standard base suspension.

In both modes the suspension damping is adaptive. As the driving conditions change, the suspension damping force changes as appropriate. The adaptation is more aggressive in sport mode.

(The AMR sport mode and its controls are separate from and not to be confused with the sport mode of the R-tronic transmission.)

Here's a little graphic I found on youtube:

More from the engineer's standard reference :

Developed by an American company (Delphi), licensed by a German company (Audi), manufactured by Delco in Hungary, and the Delphi suspension business was sold in 2009 to the Chinese (BWI).

The only time I have ever gone to sport mode was on the track and even there I thought I did fine in comfort mode as it was adaptive and didn't rattle my teeth. I have to say this is the button I hit least on the car.

toecutter - where in Idaho? I've got family in Eagle and Ketchum.

I keep running down some bumpy CA two-lane back road, get to the end and think "Oh, I should have hit the suspension sport button along with the shifter." The mag ride adapts beautifully to our rough roads.

Its a common misconception that the swith turns on and off mag ride - it doesn't - it is always engaged and adaptive in both sport and normal modes.

Correct - off = adaptive mode. Although I was under the impression in sport mode the setting was fixed to the stiffest setting.

Exclamation Re: How does the Magnetic Ride Suspension work?

Quite possibly the ADAPTIVE mode is always on.Just more aggressive in the sport mode.
