    Wheel Spacers for HRE wheels

Does anyone with HRE wheels have wheel spacers? I have tried three different brands, and cannot find spacers that fit both the R8 hubs and the HRE wheels with a proper flush fitment. The HRE wheels have a chamfer that is the exact same size as the R8 hub which makes fitment of the spacer difficult to fit both, if at all.

Never heard of anyone needing spacers for HRE's, or any high caliber wheel for that matter. Were your wheels ordered to factory specs/offsets? I'm assuming so since you're asking about spacers...

Yeah, I ordered 9 x 19s and 11 x 19s. I should have at least ordered 12 x 19s, but too late. I would like to fill out the rear wells a little more at least.

As mentioned, interesting that they didn't get the offset for the 11" rear a bit more flush, but spacers are not as bad as people make them out to be. You should be able to fit any standard spacer, can't see what the issue would be? There are concerns when you go above 4mm or so on most cars. The issue is you loose hubcentricity, now if you are talking about the center bore in the wheel (that large chamfered edge) then you want to look at spacers which have that built into them. MTM makes spacers like this and some other local US made ones have this feature.

How big a spacer do you need?

Are you possibly talking about the wheel spacer being the same outer diameter has the wheel where it meets your hub?

    Cheers,

Hmm.... So you had me thinkin. I just went out to look at the rears on my car, and they actually sit flush with the fender well. And they're HRE's in 19x11 as well....

    Hello CALBenzo,

Did you get these new? I am curious about this set. Typically these are pretty flush to the fender. You can call me at 760-597-2003 or email me at guya@hrewheels.com

    Talk to you soon.

    Hey Alex,

I am looking for about 8-10mm.

The first picture is the current HRE set-up w/o any spacers.

The next is the HRE wheel showing the chamfer portion that is rather small.

The next one is a side view of an H&R 10mm spacer that I used with my OEM Y spokes. With this spacer, the conical chamfer portion is even more pronounced.

I worked with a shop to try and find a spacer that would fit that had a smaller chamfer, but even with the smallest one they had, the spacer would still not seat flush against the wheel.

The last photo is a shot with 15mm spacers I had with my OEM Y spokes. Although this is too much (although it didn't rub), I would like at least 10mm spacers.

    Hi Guy,

We spoke earlier about the P43s about 3 months ago. Yeah, I just got these about 3-4 weeks ago.

Re: Wheel Spacers for HRE wheels

Wow, not sure how that happened! My wheels sit completely flush with the fender wells. I'll post pics of mine this evening to show.
One would think that no matter who you ordered through, once HRE received the order, they would be made with correct offsets...

Re: Wheel Spacers for HRE wheels

Unfortunately because of the way the HRE (and almost all aftermarket wheels or wheels with centering rings) have the small chamfer those style spacers will not work. They are designed for use with factory wheels and the issue here is that a 10mm spacer to work with the HRE will be complete flat, then you loose hubecentricity. This means the bore of the wheel won't have anything to center on and it needs this to ensure vibration free use.

Generally the rule with Audis is that you have to step to a 12-15mm spacer to get the hubcentricity back because the spacer must as thick as the center bore of the hub before it can provide the same center bore for your wheel. From a quick scan I see H&R makes a standard style spacer at 15mm. There are other spacers you could get and 5mm is likely the limit of what you can do before you loose your centering abilities.

There is really a dead spot between 5mm to 15mm with non-factory wheels for using spacers. In the range between 5mm and 15mm you end up sacrificing hubcentricity and that almost always leads to vibration unless you get lucky when mounting the wheel, just not the best thing.

    Hopefully that made sense.

    Cheers,
    Alexander van Gerbig
