So here's the story in a nut shell.....
Just got my 2010 V10 delivered Saturday. Not only did this car spec out with every possible factory option, but also a bunch of Audi exclusive options as well. Stickered to a tune of 179k!! Furthermore, the owner put about 25k in aftermarket parts on it. A bunch of MaCarbon interior parts, titanium exhaust, alcantara steering wheel, etc.. etc.
Now here's where it gets interesting.....
the car also came with the original 5 spoke titanium finished wheels, (maybe 100 miles on those) and a set of DTM wheels. I did a bit of research, and couldn't find much on them. Once the car arrived, I also noticed the wheel has Avus Racing scripted on them. Hmm..... so I contact the original owner, and ask him if he could give me any more info on the wheels (the car arrived with receipts for everything that was added to the car, but nothing for the wheels).
He went on to tell me they were a very special wheel, and sent me a copy of the invoice. Much to my surprise, they were much more expensive than I thought! The invoice showed me no other information other than the price. So he contacted German Motoring out of Miami FL, and had them email me directly to describe exactly what wheel this was.
Here is the following email from German Motoring:
Hi Tommy,
I am Peter’s car guy. Those wheels are very unique and only 5 sets were imported to the U.S. The wheels were a very limited edition made by Avus, where they took about 20 sets of wheels made for the 2006 DTM championship and cut them to be 5x112 bolt pattern instead of the center locks. Those are the same wheels used during the 2006 and 2007 DTM championships on the AMG and Audi race cars.
The wheels are collectors’ items and very special. They are made of aluminum alloy and the spokes are cut out on the sides to reduce weight but to maintain strength.
Whoever owns these wheels, own a piece of motorsport history and a set of wheels that have never hit the commercial mainstream. The HREs are Ok, but don’t have the pedigree of the DTM wheels. Here are a couple of pictures of the wheels in action:
And now the actual wheels..
Before the car arrived, I intended to sell these wheels and put on my HRE's.
NOW..... I'm not sure what to do?!?!??!They are in perfect condition, and look brand new!
I guess anything's for sale, for the right price.![]()
