pagid yellow RS29 brake pads, reservoir mod

I just installed Pagid yellow RS29 brake pads (front and rear) on my car. I bought these a while ago and waited for the original pads to wear all of the way down, and I did get the wear warning message in the display. We shorted the wear indicator leads and that cleared the message without having to reset any codes.

We also replaced the fluid with Motul RBF600 and cut an opening in the cowl to make access to the reservoir cap possible (like others have done). I'm just waiting on a snap-in cap/cover to fit the hole we cut. The last time I tracked the car I got a very soft pedal after less than 20 minutes in a session which is never a good feeling.

I had to put the winter wheel/tires back on the car since our Chicago weather is turning too cold to track and snow will be coming soon enough. I won't be able to really report on how much better the car slows until next spring.

In my experience the Pagid RS29 is a perfect track pad for the R8. But I think you will find you need another set of the OE pads for use on the street.

I've found I can't use the RS29 on the street, as with regular street braking pressures (light), the pads start to squeal like a stuck pig, transfer to the discs, and they get real grabby to the point you can't stop smoothly. You can get away with leaving them in for a few days after a track event, but if daily driven you won't be happy leaving them in much longer than a week.

I do remember reading that in an older thread. My thinking is that the stock pads would squeal like a stuck pig too (at times), so these may not be any worse. Swapping them out is not that big of a deal, so I may follow your advice if it becomes a problem.

    Thanks!

I agree with Desperado. I found that I had to go back to stock pads after leaving the track. If I leave the Pagid yellows in they squeal and then get grabby.

I have had no such problems leaving in the Pagid yellows. I am using STaSIS (Alcon) rotors ...don't know if that makes a difference. I made the change back in July.
