Just found this site and want to drop a short note to say hi to everyone. I am from Hong Kong and ordered my R8 2 weeks ago with an expected delivery date in Apr-Jun 08 so it is going to be a long wait. R8 here are fairly full specs. They come with Magnetic Ride, fine Nappa electric seats and 19" as standard. The only 2 options that I added are B&O & the side blade. I chose Phantom Black with oxygen silver side blade and mustang brown interior. I am driving a RS4 now so I have a fairly good idea on the engine performance. My dealer told me that they have about 50 orders for the R8 and I am the only manual so far, which makes it even more unique.

Supposedly end of December.

But after initial customs clearance etc, the car might be delivered end January.

Are you sure magnetic ride is standard? Coz i thought it was an option when we ordered ours. White with carbon sidebaldes.

Yph - I once heard from someone that to drive a car in Singapore you have to pay some huge registration/ tax fee on top of the purchase price. Is that true? Either way I thought it was very expensive to own a car in Singapore.

It is stated in the specification sheet so it better be. Also, I will be very upset if it is not standard since magnetic ride is standard even on the TT 2.0.

I knew 3 other people that has put in an order, so I can claim that I know 10% of the R8 owner here in HK.

Cost of ownership is indeed high here. There are a number of taxes to pay. They include 20% customs duty, 110% tax termed as addtional registration fee (not kidding!) and 7% sales tax.

The final retail price after all that beating is generally slightly above 2x international price.

Some mitigating factors: We have a very active secondary market, meaning trade in values can be relatively high; insurance, parking, petrol prices are all sensible

So overall - prices are pretty nuts but overall cost of ownership after trade in is perhaps not as scary as initially thought.

I make it up by driving as much as i can !!!
