I'd take the 458 any day over the R8.
I actually prefer the F430 Spider more, with its glass engine hatch. Heck, all these cars are amazing. They all deserve awe and appreciation.

Nice. I was talking to a mechanic tonight about mods and he said that most Ferrari owners tend not to mod their cars because they feel they are perfect from the factory. With the 458 it's hard to argue that.
I wish I could suck it up and pay the premium to initially get in "the club." I guess I'll slum it with my 5.2 for now![]()
wow, it seems like you guys are not happy with your r8's..e.ven the 5.2 v10. I just sold my ferrari 360 spyder and was thinking about getting a r8 v10 spyder or a 458 in the near future.....i was leaning towards the r8 cause i want to remain DL and get less attention. Hearing these comments are very discouraging....esp from fellow r8 community. How inferior is the r8 v10 compared to a 458, or a 430 for that matter? I have driven the v8 and was not impressed at all. Please give me some feedback. I did just go on my last drive before i ship the ferrari out, and i was thinking i am really going to miss this....i know there are faster cars out there but nothing feels or sounds like a ferrari. Please give me some feedback on the overall feel of the car as well as the straight line speed feel of it. I was recently in my friends gtr and he did the launch control, even though its much faster then my 360 off the line, it was just not exciting. Is audi r8 v10 the same thing like the GTR...I really hope not.
Perhaps I'm the odd one out, but I'm not sure if I like the look of the 458, rear qtr puts me of, a little too square for my liking, still, probably wouldn't turn it down if offered. Maybe it's because I can't afford one, but I'm quite happy with my R8 V8, beautiful. Each to their own.
I'm not sure how you conclude that we're not happy with our V10's. I'm thrilled with my V10 spyder - it has alot of presence and "soul". Also, personally I don't like the looks of the 458 spyder (or the upcoming McClaren spyder) beause the flying butresses just look wrong to me. But, as you say, nothing sounds like a Ferrari including the R8. For me, someone always owns something that is a step up from my car and I believe that the 458 coupe is a better sports car than the R8. It should be since it is $100K more expensive. I'd rather have my R8 than a 430 but I'd rather have a 458 coupe above either - but that doesn't mean that I think any less of the R8. BTW, I agree with you about the GTR - an amazing technical achievement, but a boring street ride, IMO.
458 coupe is sweet car...but not for the cash they demand for it....i dont think its that much
Better...then the r8.
We are bunch of lucky guys ..owning. The cars we drive.
Not all can buy cars in the 100 k range.

Overall I prefer the R8 over the 458 - drive and styling. While nothing can replicate the scream of that Italian V8 at 9k rpms, I think the R8 is a more engaging car to drive - especially with the 6MT. The 458 is a technological marvel, but that is part of the problem - it has so much technology. I think all cars have naturally moved in that direction (progress, right??) like a 993 to a 991 or a 355 v. 458, but to me, Ferraris have taken it to the extreme. My favorite Ferrari is still my first one - 355, small, simple and light like a go-kart.
