I kinda got my online - mine was a pre-built new car that i didnt have to wait for.
so i didnt see any worries given it was new. if i had ordered from the factory i would have certainly ordered differently.

After not meeting the reserve price on ebay I was contacted by the Bentley dealer in San Fran that had the car and we came to agreement. I wired the money the next day and the car arrived by enclosed transport a couple of weeks later (it takes a bit of extra paperwork to bring a car into Canada). It was exactly as described and turned out the previous owner was one of the founders of Yahoo and had 20 cars in his stable - hence the very low mileage. I've bought another car from a private seller online but that took a bit longer to establish the necessary trust. Good luck.
Doug Buchanan ... '08 4.2 R-Tronic with STaSIS S/C in Jet Blue; Oxy Silver sideblades; Limestone Grey interior
Carbon credits ... via SMART four-two
Previous machines ... a variety of Porsches (E, SC, 930, 993)
I got mine from the dealer without seeing it. Seen the advert, emailed for log book photos and registration plate than checked online registration to make sure it matches VIN and no debt or write off, how many owners etc.
Than transferred money thru the bank, flew over and picked it up.
So far no issues
Excellent, guy! Let's keep it coming! Thanks for sharing!

like op said there is no way i would ever buy a car without seeing it in person first but thats just me i am a funny one![]()
I have a friend who got his V8 R8 in FL, bought sight unseen, and has done a few cars that way (two Ferraris, Viper, and the R8) - no issues.
I'm trying to close the deal next week on a V10 R8 from that same dealer, just moving some money around - will be doing the same, and having it shipped up.
(just did a road trip from MA to NC and back in a few days, and not sure I'm up for another one in the near future - granted in a much nicer car)

So you did buy the orange one?? Must be with the mileage on it...congrats!! I am doing the exact reverse of your story as I just bought an R8 GT from Fort Worth and its on an enclosed truck being picked up today actually and to me by Monday. I did the deal through my dealership here though but I have not seen the car but asked for up close pics of it. But I have bought two other cars sight unseen, one from a dealer and flew in and drove it back and a second one from a private person and had them take it to an Audi dealer to check it out then sent a cashiers check and had the car shipped to me. Just get some independent eyes on it. I had the dealer that did the inspections have the service manager give me a call to give me his visual opinion of the cars.

All good input.
To the point of a couple posters I would only buy site unseen if I had a good and long relationship with the seller and as such would know my hot buttons. I have bought many cars in other states and have always gone to inspect. Sometimes drove back and others shipped; all depending on the distance and car.
I would trust a reputable Audi dealer to do a tech inspection and have confidence in the results. I had one done on my r8 and it is very thorough.
BUT there is nothing like driving the car, test every button, etc
AND I would not trust anyone who didn't know me and I have worked with before to do a VISUAL inspection. This is very subjective. I have been amazed of the years when I tell someone what I expect in clear terms and when I look at the car or boat it is in no where near the condition expressed by the seller...even reputable dealers. If you are not concerned about the dealer possibly missing chips, paint surface condition, abrasions, etc then site unseen after a tech inspection may work for you.
My $.02, travel to check the car. Its part of the journey and process!
