Interesting Engine Fact.

I was at TSM yesterday watching them work on my car and they pointed out to me the engine alignment. If you open up your engine hatch look at where the hood connects at. That is the center of the car and now look at the engine. The engine sits off center a few inches towards the left.

Now that it has been pointed out to me it drives me a little weird looking at it haha.

Turns out all of the Gallardos and most mid engine cars are the same. Why is that?

Just a guess but I believe it has to do with weight distrubution. I remember reading that my Viper's engine was aligned slightly off-center to the right to counteract the weight of the driver. The R8's engine could be slightly to the left to counteract the weight of some other component(s).

I just took a quick look at the Ultimate Factories R8 video and I see them mounting the fuel tank on the righthand side. Maybe that is one of the reasons the engine is slightly to the left.

So I guess that means you'd be off balance if you drive with an empty gas tank....haha.

Isn't it because of the transmission? Maybe I'm imagining things...

EDIT: Googled this:

Murcie (Countach, Diablo, Veyron): Gearbox is in the middle of the car (in the ****pit, hence the rather massive armrest), and an axle runs from the gearbox alongside the engine to the rear diff.

Gallardo, R8: Gearbox is at the rear, but an axle runs alongside the engine, hooking up to a clutch that feeds power to the front axle.

Just weight distribution I think... looking from the rear the GB looks offset to the right of centre.

Pre TT you can see... the offset of the airbox outlets / Centre line of banks against fixings on CF back and the difference in shoulder of the CF side pieces (LH with the filler cap against RH).

is the weight centred? or is it offset due to the weight centre line??.
