    iPhone 5 in Audi r8

Just picked up my R8 today- it's a 2009. I've seen some posts here, but im hoping there might have been some updates. I have an aux plug, and am looking for a way to either bluetooth stream audio or use the aux plug for an iphone 5. Any options out there?

If I were to change out the head unit for something that would support bluetooth streaming, would the existing buttons and controls in the dash be able to control that head unit?

    Thanks for the help.

You can fit the Audi Music Interface if you don't mind plugging the phone in. Using the original iPod/iPhone 30 pin adapter and Apple's lighting adapter works perfectly in the AMI as I have tested. If you wanted you could extend the cable that comes with the AMI interface into the console to make it so you have the phone closer by. You can still get and make a call while the phone is plugged into the AMI as well, the RNS (Nav) can control and display the playlist, song, etc.

Bluetooth streaming has been a pain to get working on these cars without aftermarket equipment and even then it's not fool proof.

If you were interested in a complete AMI package for the R8 I can help if needed, PM or email: contact@europrice.us

    For AMI you need:

    RNSE unit
    AMI unit
    Wiring harness
    Coding
    AMI cable

There is no specific AMI cable for the iPhone 5 yet. Audi is working on this.
In the meantime, you will have to usea standard iphone/ipod AMI cable + the lightning to 30 pin adapter....which is not 100% foolproof yet. You have to plug and unplug sometimes to get data transfer.

With AMI you do get song and playlist details on the main screen and can control your music via the head unit or steering wheel controls.

    Best wishes.

Is it true that there is an RNS-E standard and an RNS-E high res of which only the latter works with AMI? As ive seen rns-e 3G and 2G mentioned which is confusing the hell out of me. Or is it just a case of there is only one type RNS-E and the old RNS found in 2007,2008 and some 2009 cars?

As I have experienced the AMI requires the 2010 RNS-E. The earlier cars have what can be deemed as 2G and the 2010+ have the 3G systems.

The 2010+ RNS-E can be retrofitted to the earlier models, but as we've seen it can be a bit of a headache to get everything situated with coding to make all components functional.

I need to find a good 30 pin to lightning adapter with a longer cable. I bought the adapter but hate putting my phone in the compartment.

Has anyone tried the AMI to USB (instead of AMI to 30 pin iPod) and then use a standard iphone 5 cable to get the iphone to where ever in the car that you want it?
