    Quite disappointed!

    Hello Guys,

Do I come across as advertising my own business when posting in R8 Talk?

I have my business details on my signature but certainly don't self promote.

I am quite disappointed to have received this message today from the forum owners considering all my posts are trying to help the community here and give away free advice which I enjoy doing and show what some of the R8 owners are getting up to in the UK tuning wise.

REPerformance is only just a year old and I have been posting on here for much much longer than that.

My reasoning for not becoming a vendor is that the large majority of users are USA based.

Would love to hear your thoughts on this!

    Cheers Ricky

Interesting. I'm not familiar with the history of this site, who runs it, what the business model is (if any) and I feel I should not offer an opinion as to whether their request is fair or not.

I will say however that I'm in the market for buying a second hand R8, and in the past few months that I've spent on this forum I've already figured out that if I want to take my future car to a real specialist, I should call yo. (I'm in the Netherlands so would have to make quite a trip, but I think I won't mind once I own that dream car). Not because of your signature that I don't recall seeing, not of any salesy posts from you, but because of the genuine and knowledgeable advice you're providing, and more than anything else because every UK member seems to be saying so. So I don't think you should mind about changing the signature or even your user name - this is a niche market and people will take the effort of finding a specialist.

I don't post much, but I have seen your posts and I think they are very valuable to folks like myself who try and work on their own cars. I can't see a problem with your signature block and you've (from what I have read) never come across as advertising for your shop. But ultimately it's up to the forum owners to decide.... I guess?

That sucks. Just as well I follow you on Facebook!

I'm sure we'd all know who you were if you changed your signature etc.

Really poor from the forum imho, your advice is first class and I've never read you promote your own work if there was another solution available.

Ok Ricky, we need you here, period. Also, I think you probably have been reported by someone who may have conflicting interests.

WTF! Ricky should be given honorary status given his contribution on the forum. Seems like someone has made a complaint to verticalscope.

It's guys like you Ricky that make forums like R8talk the forums they are. You give so much more than you get gratitude for, Invaluable Help and advice.

And No it doesn't seem like you are advertising and as you say your not offering services your just stating who you are and what you do.

    Good Luck

This is my guess as well. You've helped me out with a few questions I had when I was having my SC issues and never once did you pitch anything or recommend reaching out to you privately which most definitely has been done by other members of the forum. (I'm not complaining or calling this spamming, I'm just saying you've not done this when other members most definitely have).

Perhaps you can email the forum sales team and request a GEO breakdown of the traffic/users, then request a vendor quote based off the % that you'd reach in your GEO...everything is negotiable

My thoughts exactly. Prob due to some of the small items you have listed in the classified got someone's attention? I never had the impression you were marketing your business. I find you to be a very valuable resource and appreciate your contributions. However - now that someone has complained and the owner of the site has responded and acted upon the complaint, its probably not going to make any difference what opinion we have........
