    MTM Supercharger

Has anyone been following the MTM (Motoren Technik Mayer) supercharger conversion for the R8? I am attaching a link to an article on the supercharger conversion of the RS4 B7. According to the US distributor an R8supercharger conversion will be available this summer and will increase output to 520 HP. Prices still to be determined but as far a performance, if the numbers from the RS4 are any indication, the lighter supercharged R8 should be in 997 Turbo territory or better.

Thoughts, experiences from all would be appreciated.

I'm not too keen on voiding warranties of expensive, first model year cars.

I also have an MTM chipped RS4 (2.7 litre). Up from 380 bhp to 420 bhp.

Had it for 6 years and very happy with it. But, I will wait for the V10 and not modify my V8.

I agree with Wedouglas. The work is extensive (not like a chip). You will never get your money back, engine and transmission warranty is voided, and few insurers will cover it. Those that do heavily load the premium (in UK).

Good points, as to warranty and insurance. The latter is less of an issue her in the US. I know that MTM provides a warranty against damage caused by their equipment but I agree that is hardly the same as having a manufacturers warranty.

Still I doubt from what I have read that the V10 will be able to match the performance of a supercharged V8. The na engine will not produce the same torque in the low and mid range rpms and is burdened by significantly more weight.

But that is all speculation and generalization; only time will tell.

I am all for it. I have had great success with other hi performance superchargers. I will need to look more closing at the quality of the MTM build, but if it is all top quality I will be a buyer.

    Bodhii,

I've expressed my views on this. But, if you want to know about MTM, I drove to their facility in southern Germany some years ago to have the car chipped.

The facility was impressive and I was able to try cars they had there with several levels of chip/power upgrade. Whilst I was there they had an Audi "Allroad" in bits and were customising it for a customer - squeezing an RS4 2.7 L engine into it !!!

The owner used to work at Audi - their facility is only 5 miles from Ingolstadt.

Their work is very good, so no concerns on a technical or design aspect at all. I would, however, check that their US outfit is as good and as technically competent as the Germans. If not, they could screw up your car !!

That's why I preferred to drive to Germany, rather than have mine upgraded in UK.

    Cool Re: MTM Supercharger

I have an RS6 in Texas with MTM chip in it and it is fantastic, Milltek exhaust too and its about 520 hp. Black on black with 19" HRE wheels, real wolf in sheep's clothing as most in US don't know the car. I'm very impressed with MTM org. and have an R8 on order - I've been looking into the conversion too. I wonder what the insurers in UK will say though, tough enough getting insurance quotes from them on the standard R8. MTM sounds like a very professional organisation though. With this it might run as well as my 911 Twin Turbo (also Milltek exhaust, but otherwise stock bar Champion wheels). I'm afraid I have a "car habit" as I tell people.

Hopefully the price of the MTM R8's supercharger will be close to the MTM supercharger price for the RS4, since they will be almost identical.
