R8 will race at Le Mans!

The engine size is decreased to 4.0L, producing 530HP @ 7.800 rpm and 480NM @ 7.000 rpm. Weight is 1.250kg. The exhaust system is custom made by Eisenmann, crankshaft by Omesa and pistons by Mahle. This is an effort by Michael Düchting, Bilstein and Sport Auto called 24h-Project 2008: Blue-Tec. It will race in the SP7 class.

Of course the original ALMS Audi R8 was also a 4.0L V8 diesel, so maybe that is it? Diesel makes good sense for these endurance races. This car is a private entry and not a company car.

From the spec this is not diesel but a naturaly aspirated gazoline engine.
Most probably a V8.

Edit: and a very impressive spec if I may add! Reaching 135bhp per liter of displacement at only 7800rpm.
The R8's 4,2L FSI V8 would offer maybe 580-600hp if it was tuned to the same level!
