R8 Confiscated by french police?

We were in Le Mans on Friday night (13th June) and accidentally jumped into someone elses taxi they had ordered (we thought it had just pulled up) and the guy who ordered the taxi said he had his R8 confiscated by the french police.

Apparently he was doing 160 (mph?)

I didnt get a chance to get more of the story, but does anyone know about this incident?

The French have become insane with their speeding fines and I have personally seen cars confiscated at their speed trap offices if a foreign national was unable to arrange for cash payment of their fine. The incident in question was a corvette whose German owner decided that the 10,000 Euro fine was beyond his means. My friend was receiving a more moderate fine of 500 euros!!! We were lucky becuase we were driving at the same speed when his mobile phone rang and he let up to take the call.

According to the signs on the autoroute, 25 kms/h over the limit could lead to the loss of the vehicle. Also the police have a lot more traps - both fixed and mobile.
