Question Hesitation at low rpm - is it a fault ?

I have over 8,000 km now and one of the few things I dislike with my R8 is the hesitation of the engine at very low revs. It happens rather frequently, and feels a little like a misfire.

Is that inherent to the engine or is it a fault that I should have my friendly Audi dealer correct ?

Thanks for any comments and suggestions.

If by hesitation you mean it lacks torque, then it's normal. Otherwise, no. I have not experienced that.

No, I don't mean the lack of torque. Since the R8 is my daily driver I don't mind it having split personality. Sedate at low rpm and very fast at high rpm.

    It's definitely a hesitation.

I have not noticed this as you describe it. I have an R-Tronic and I have noticed a "hesitation" if I approach a junction or traffic circle and, having slowed down, I want to take off quickly ...I do get the impression that sometimes it can't decide if it wants to go or to shift down to first gear before taking off.

I have a 'glitch' at the bottom of second gear, which is really annoying...!

I've got a flatspot between 3000-3500 RPM but its only noticeable in 3rd.

I've had an Audi tech check it out on a test drive with me and apparently its just the engine changing between different stages in the map ?

Do you mean very low revs, for example very slow rolling in 2nd, nearly stopped and then you press the peddle pretty hard it kind of stutters before going? If so yeah I have noticed that on several high powered cars with manuals

The 2nd gear thing is not uncommon, I seem to remember a thread about it on here somewhere.
Mine is always there - out of first into second at any rpm, then press the pedal, short pause, then off you go again. It almost feels like a misfire.....

It never does it in any other gear though, very odd.

"like a misfire" is indeed the best description I can think of.

Not sure whether it is in 2nd gear only. I will have to pay attention to that when I next drive the car. Actually I'm not even sure that it happens consistently.

Mine's had this since I got it. It stopped doing it after the recent software upgrade, but did it a couple of times at the weekend. Mostly seems to happen if I boot it at low revs (between 1 and 2k) and usualy in 2nd .Feels like a complete loss of power for a fraction of a second, rather than 1 or 2 cylinders missing.
