Are they nuts, or just plain crazy ??
The official Audi 5 bag set in UK is around GBP £3,500.00 or so as far as I remember.
There is a company that made sets for Audi UK, who gave a 2 bag set free to customers on all 2007 UK deliveries.
They are well made and reasonably priced.
Luggage
I've spent some time researching this; I travel a lot generally and have found purpose built luggage to be the most efficient way to go. I've had it for a series of Porsches from 356 to 911, and enjoyed the style and function. Here's what I've found for R8:
Koffer24 in Germany has a custom made set: website is www.koffer24.de. It's about E500 with VAT; for the states it's about E420, plus shipping. You can see it at their website. I got a set, it fits, that's about all I can say. If it were not fitted to the space available in the car I would never buy it, as I don't care for the build quality or the materials.
I managed to find a new set of the Audi UK "giveaway" luggage on Ebay. It's very well made, well fitted and of excellent materials [leather with alcantara lining.] It's made by Paul Kennedy at Bespoke Luggage in the UK. It's only downside for me is that it's softsided, which does allow you to stuff more in that you should, but doing so also distorts the luggage so that it may not fit exactly. I prefer hard cases anyway, so I began a correspondence with Paul to see what he could do in hard cases.
He's now got prototypes of two hard cases for the front, and is in process of finishing a pair of hard bags to go in the space behind the front seat. My travels in this car are usually short trips for the weekend, and usually with my wife, who demands equal if not greater luggage space; we also concluded that putting two smaller cases behind the seats would be easier that one large, although the soft case he makes for the front will fit nicely behind the seats; it's just a struggle to get it back there. I'm working out the details of my order from Paul now and hope to take delivery in about 8 weeks: large and small hard bags for the front, and two of equal size for behind the seats.
I've attached pictures of the Koffer bags, and the prototype hard cases that Paul has built. He's actually a member here, and is easy enough to contact.
hope this helps.
i have bought the kit when i have ordered the R8 and they had to take it back because the 2 pieces which are suppose to fit behind the seats doesn't fit because of the Audi race seats, only works with standard seats.....well planed
greetings from Lugano

Actually I received the hard luggage set from Paul / BespokeLuggage a few weeks ago. I suppose my order was the prototype (ordered february this year), and can be seen on the pictures. Both of them are superior quality (inside as well), two minor issues are the direction of the R8 logo (upside down when hold in hand) and that both could be somewhat larger (I am talking about 2-3 centimeters , and I am not sure if it would not block removal...). I agreed with Paul on a soft bag (the bigger one - also on their website) and ordered one for the shelf to be able to swap it with the front one anytime. I tried to put the hard one onto the shelf behind the seats - it fits nicely, and I found it easy to remove (you need to tilt it specially though).

guys
sorry it gets confusing with your log in names as i know you by your real names so forgive me if i get confused.
SK1 yes you have the prototype set, there is a small change to the top case which if you send it back i can get done for you or can send you the bits to do, it's just putting a small grab handle on the back of the top case. You may have noticed because of it's shape you have to lift it out vertically, it's to make this easier.
The hard cases are a development of the original soft cases, the top case being designed to go on the parcel shelf. You can do the same with the hard cases, the smaller one should also fit into the passenger footwell, atleast that was the plan, but i'd need to check to be sure. The new version of the rear case is to split in half, it just makes it so much easier to get them in and out, but tomorrows plan is just to check they don't obstruct the speakers
When it comes to the logo, there never seems to be an answer, the logic i always follow is the primary position of the luggage is in the car, so should right when in place and the fact that it is wrong out of the car adds slightly to the weirdness of the case. lets face it there is a certain cool quality that the cases look strange so when people see them it's obvious they're fitted and not just case that will go in the boot. I always compare it to having a made to measure suit, you put an interesting lining just so every so often people glance and realise. If people wanted the logo the other way around it can be done.
In the uk the quattro price is £3200 ex vat for the cases in the boot and a further £1650+ vat for the parcel shelf cases, when i started the company, all the companies said the same thing, they loved fitted luggage but they could never sell it, which is why we set out to keep the quality high and the prices sensible.
I do tend to read the luggage threads here, but generally keep quiet so to get bias free feedback, i also don't want to abuse my membership by advertising.
Ti-Mike if you want cases to go behind the race seats drop me a line and i'll get some new plans for you
4ringer i'll check your leather colour tomorrow and the car colour, and get back to you on the final colour combination
please feel free to contact me if you have any questions
