Resale in 2010 - V8 vs V10

I have the opportunity to build my V8 car and have it delivered in December/January. I could also give up my spot in line to the next guy and wait for the V10, in which case I would be #2 in line for the V10.

I feel if the v10 in fact sets a new Nurburgring lap record for production cars (besting the ZR1 and GTR) it will command a bigger % resale premium. My intention is to drive this car for 9-12 months and sell it, hopefully recouping all of my purchase price. Do you suppose once the V10 is announced that is what everyone will want, and the V8 will take a hit? I am hearing the V10 will be 25% more, but I dont think another $30-35k is going to deter anyone.

On the other hand, by the time I get my V10 the R8 will be a year older and perhaps less hot. Maybe there is a new "it" car. The market may change and I take a bath on the V10 (I watched this happen in the GT500 Mustang market). Please look into your crystal ball and let me know what you see.

If you are concerned about losing money on the car, don't buy it.

Cars are bit like computers - there will be a quicker and or cheaper one along sometime soon.

There is no guarantee that the V10 will be better only that it will be faster. The two aren't always linked

As noted, don't buy a car for its resale value. Also, the V10 will have slightly more value no matter how it does, so long as it bests the V8's performance (which it will).

Yes, but production of V10 will be very limited. There will always be more V8 than V10................

For me buying a car has always been an emotional decision. It is about performance, style, sense of occassion, enjoyment, pride, satisfaction, etc. So I don't mix a business decision into it. Either a V8 or a V10, you can't loose as the supply is limited.

Give up your R8, maybe someone who wants it will get it.

You will make more money on the V10.

my crystal ball is saying that you should get your hands onto 250 GTO. Very unlikely you'll be losing $$$.

For normal people like most of us, buy the v8, enjoy the ride and budget for a loss. If you don't make a loss then be quite happy about it.
No more R8...Jing jing sold after a year with only 7000km. A people mover as replacement.

I would think that if you get one of the first V10s then after a year u would be very unlucky not to get your money back. But you can never bank on that with cars, essentially it is not an investment. You buy it for the smiles :-)
