    500bhp GT3 version of R8 announced

Audi have today announced a GT3 customer version of the R8 to be available from Autumn 2009. Power is quoted at 500bhp and it has already been shaken down by Frank Biela.

We will publish a few more details on DR later today, but my first thought is.... will there be a road version? .

    Here it is:

Ingolstadt – For the first time, Audi Sport will offer a racing sports car specifically developed for customer use in the form of the powerful 500 hp plus GT3 version of the Audi R8 which will be available from autumn 2009. The logistics and factory space required for the AUDI AG customer programme will be created over the next few months in Ingolstadt, Neckarsulm and Györ.

Logic suggests that Audi have used the tried and tested 4.2L V8 engine, but they haven't actually confirmed this yet (publicly). Whilst the different side blades hint at the forthcoming V10 R8, I suspect that's just because they have chosen to use them for practical and aesthetic reasons. We'll soon find out.

    Sorry guys,

I don't the "whale tail" spolier on the back end. Makes it looks like a boy racer's car with go-faster stripes...............

I'm quite happy to keep to the refined aesthetic sophistication of V8/V10.

Anyway, it's so LOW off the ground, it wouldn't last long on poorly maintained, pot holed UK roads.

Yeah, but they wouldn't have gave it the spoiler if I didn't need it. I'm sure it is very useful. As for how low it sit, it doesn't really matter because I highly doubt this is road legal.
