My dad has been on the list for the R8 since Nov '07, and he is no where near delivery, but after doing my best to get him his dream car at MSRP, I found an '09 R8 sitting at the same dealer, and the guy who originally ordered it decided to pass on it and then offered it to his bro-in-law, but he has not contacted the dealer in the past week, and only has until noon on Wednesday to claim the car. So, if the car is not claimed, then my dad will get it. The car has basically everything he would chose: Daytona, CF Side Blades, CF Interior, Premium, Nav and R Tronic, however, it was not ordered with B&O sound (which is weird, because I have never seen an R8 without at least nav and B&O). I tested out the sound, and I must say it was better than I expected for a 150 watt system. The only major problems I noticed were minor but clearly noticable distortions at high volumes, and when playing a song at a high volume, and there is a sudden volume peek in the song, then the volume is lowered for a few milliseconds/seconds as to not blow out the speakers (I guess thats the reason for it, or it is to prevent major distortion). But still, he and I are both wondering if we could retrofit the B&O system, such that it looks and sounds OEM and has all the B&O options in the MMI. If not, is it relativity easy to install a better, OEM looking, sound system. We want something powerful and precise, but we don't want to see amps in the trunk, giant speakers in the back, ect., so the best that can be done while looking almost 100% OEM. If anyone has done that, what parts were needed and how much did it cost to get installed?
Thanks!
