I've noticed a short but loud rumble with a short vibration when I start up the car. It lasts for like 1 second, but it happens every time. Anyone have a simliar problem? It's been happening since I recently started to redline my car.

Is your car manual or r-tronic?

funny question, as my previous 2008 R8 (which had 2000 miles on it) did that from about 1000 miles on. My current 2009 R8 is almost "too quiet" on startup, but the rumble has gotten progressively meaner :-) I liked the old rumble. My guess is that break in and perhaps some sort of build up is the reason?
I have the same rumble for about a week now at every startup (started this around 11000 km on the clock). Just 1-2 seconds right after start, it also moves the body slightly, but then it smooths to the high rev warming that lasts for around 30 sec. I though this 1-2 sec is due to the cold weather that came to us - my R8 had did not have issues when starting "cold" in 25-30˙C. But it is below 10˙C now, I thought this is the reason. Maybe I am wrong.

Dry sump. Takes a few seconds to pump oil around the system at startup..........
My car is a manual with about 4000kms on it now. It hasn't happened before. Just suddenly started doing that..

Mmm...
Check oil levels, or if not low, then get the garage to investigate.
my car started doing it at about 4000km too. Only when cold. Its a manual.
Actually, it does coincides with low engine oil level and a mini topup, so r8 england could be right. will get the chaps to top up fully. the thing consumes oil ffffast !!! the manual says 1 litre per 1000km?
does the rumbling do any harm?
One thing I have seen from forum members over the last year is the tremendous variation in the amount of oil used. Some cars drink it, others rarely need a top up.
I don't thing the rumbling does any harm, but certainly it is best not to let oil levels drop too low as you want to ensure everything is correctly lubricated.
It's easy and quick to check and top up, rather than wait for the red light to come on, or rumble.
Hi, anyone managed to solve the problem? mine is still rumbling after oil top up (i could send to dealer, but it could take days and it would help if i just tell them what the fix is)
